Looking for advice on Which would be better?

Current setup is:
Front L/R: Polk Audio LSiM705
Rear L/R: Polk T15 Bookshelf speakers
Center: Onkyo Brand Speaker Center from 7.1 package system
Receiver: Denon AVRS540bt (specs here)

My center channel is a bit crap. Knowing that the Denon is a tad anemic with power to the left and right channels and probably not pushing the LSIM's properly and that the center channel speaker is subpar - I had thought about running the center channel to the crossovers on the LSIMs. My thought was that it would (1) push power into the speakers (I understand if you under power the speakers too long you can damage them) and (2) eliminate the crappy center channel.

OR do I just leave it as is until I can get a proper center channel?

The Polk T15 sound great as rear speakers, much better than the Onkyo surrounds leftover from the 7.1 package system - which is the where the center channel came from.

Eventually I would like to get the center channel replaced as well as the receiver but I do like having the one remote to operate everything hooked up to it but the receiver that I want is not currently within my fiscal reach.

Any thoughts, advice, or ideas?

If the receiver has a phantom mode for center or just turn off center channel and see if you like.

That's a good thought...I will try that but my thought was that it just spreads the center channel equally to the rest of the speakers so I thought if I specifically wired the center channel directly to the top crossover (tweeter and mid) it would avoid it spreading it out over the other channels.

Phantom or no center should just send the information to front left and right. I went years without a center since I didn't have room for it in my living room at the time.

Don't do that. Buy an LSiM center channel now and when you can afford it, a new AVR.
