Scroll down for pics posted by DollarDave, from whom I bought these speakers in 2019. They have been well cared for, and look exactly the same today. Cabinets were refinished in a gorgeous black cherry stain.
4.1TL modifications (as purchased) include RD0198 tweeters, upgraded caps, resistors, and inductors. Also modded with Larry's Rings, Dynamat on drivers, Loctite on magnets, Cardas binding posts, and new grille clothes. Original Polk stands with spikes included.
Additional upgrades (done by me) include:
Sonicaps Gen I caps in the tweeter circuit (replacing the ClarityCap PX), Dayton 1% caps in the midwoofer circuit (replacing Dayton 5% - just because), new Mills and Vishay Mills resistors - note the polyswitches were removed and jumpers installed (as recommended by DarqueKnight), 4-pole Neutrik connectors replacing 2-pole Neutriks on the SDA interconnect cable (Belden 10), and judicious use of SonicBarrier below the midwoofer. I'll toss in the ClarityCap PX caps, and other crossover components I replaced.
Price: $500. Available locally (Northern Ohio), or I can deliver between here and Chicago, IL in early August.

How early in August? Maybe I could find someone in Chucago to take them in for me and I can pick them up at a later date. Those are Beauts.Home Theater

Those are gorgeous. I sold my completely stock CRS+ with original stands for $300. Yours are a steal at your asking price.

Based on @DollarDave post it looks like they were shipped to you? I'm interested if shipping is an option.

Re: shipping: I paid to ship empty boxes to Dave, and for shipping full ones back to me. So, you'll appreciate that I have much more than $500 in these speakers already. Plus, I no longer have the boxes. That said, I'd estimate the cost of materials and shipping to be over $100. If someone wants to pay $600, I will ship the speakers and stands (3 boxes total), and eat the additional costs. -
I would highly recommend you price shipping before you commit to that. The cost of shipping has skyrocketed the past two years. You could easily pay 200 to 300 shipping depending on the location- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
-
I will buy them now. Tell me how to send the money.
-
Thanks for the advice, Trey. It's true, I haven't priced shipping for some time.
For anyone only interested in the speakers being shipped to them, let's just say the cost of packaging and shipping will be extra. -
Hey, Jim! Our posts crossed in the ether. PM sent.
-
The speakers and stands have been sold. Thanks to all who expressed interest in them.

These were among the polks I started out with and some of my favorites too! Don’t get too volume happy and they will be a treat !"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Glad somebody got them so i'm able to quit thinking about them those dates in august wouldn't of worked for me. I was intrigued by the cabinets. I have a pair with original stands and all I need is crossovers done. Congratulations on both parties involved.

Is there a thread for who had drove the farthest to pick up a set of vintage Polk speakers ?
Yes there was.
I drove 4hrs each way for my 2.3tl's and 8hrs each way for my Aragon 8008bb amp. The speakers were way in the back woods of Indiana and it was a very cold nasty rainy day. I had no radio stations that came in on a good portion of that drive. -
Stay tuned for a new record holder. I'll let him/her claim the crown, or abdicate, as the case may be.
-
Hmmmm; 5 hours one way (Ne Ct to Delaware) for former member Joe's (hearingimpaired) 1.2tl's was my longest. That was the day after Christmas in 2011. Return trip was much longer because of a detour to Silver Springs Maryland for some more gear and then to Sal's house in Jersey to drop off some gear and pick up some MIT cables. That was a very long tiring day with a sugar buzz as my bud and I were munching down lots of Christmas cookies on that road trip.

Mmmmmm Christmas Cookies !

IIRC Ed drove 16+ hours each way for some SRTs. @SCompRacer would know more as he was a stopover in route I think.
I drove 12+ hours one way for some Infinity RS-II a few years back but not Polk…."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

Does the trip have to be for the SOLE purpose of picking up equipment?
If not, I drove 17 hours one way to pick up a pair of LSi-F/X speakers from Geoff(G-2) who sadly passed away between when I committed to buying and when I picked them up (from his father). State College, PA to Tampa, FL. I don’t count it though, since it was a ‘stop’ during a family vacation.
13 hours each way is impressive! Congrats on the sale and enjoy the new speakers! -
VSAT88 and his lovely daughter just took leave. Fine gentleman and passionate audio lover. Safe travels home!
-
That's dedication, or insanity...
-
I've been on many speaker runs and often wondered why...
-
Does the trip have to be for the SOLE purpose of picking up equipment? Nah, who cares. As long as we picked up POLK speakers, lol.

Oh, I see.. Family vacation ??? Nah, that don't count. lol. -
Back in the early 2000’s.....Dave and I went from here (SC)to F1’s (MD), to George’s (Exit 5 NJTP) to Lou’s in the shadow of Giants Stadium to drop off a pair of AR9’s and pick up a pair of Quad ESL 63’s that Lou picked up for me and back. Non Stop. Just under 30hrs total (including stops). That was an epic roadtrip.I plan for the future. - F1Nut
