Looks like a black racer. Excellent mousers. Not friendly as pets though...

I think it’s a rat snake. Pretty common around here, though not usually on the side of the house by the door.

    Cool!!

We have Bull snakes around here. They can get easily to 6' long. In the fall they can scare the snot out of ya. They have a good representation of a rattlesnake in the leaves, let me just tell you most people prefer to high step it quickly in any other direction.

We had one two weeks ago, I think the same kind. I noticed it wrapped around the wheel of my son’s pickup. I slithered up into the engine compartment. That’s a couple of unusual encounters we’ve had recently. Oh yeah, and we also had one in our swimming pool skimmer. All three were about the same size as the one in the photo.

Could just be the same one who's taken up residence at your residence. Kinda like the family member that irritates the ship out of you but not much you can do about it.

Rat snakes are docile in comparison to many other types of snakes. I've handled 100's if not 1000's of snakes in my lifetime and as a kid and young adult, reptiles were a hobby, ...chics don't dig them :/ .

You can usually just pick them up gently and move them. They are great for rodent control.

If my wife saw that at our house, she would say let's move right now.

She hates snakes and won't watch a movie that has snakes in them, lol.

If by some miracle it’s the same snake, I’ve got way bigger issues.😬😂

My 83 year old friend told me a joke yesterday...

He's really going in for Oxygen Therapy treatments for his bladder ulcers. 5 days a week for 6 weeks. 2 hour sessions.

He quietly asked the nurse since he's feeling revitalization feelings, is there going to be some revitalization down you know where?

    She replied...

We're here to heal the sick, not raise the dead. :s

My yard backs up to the Wolf river conservancy.
I see a lot of small black racers.
I was slashing back the heavy brush from the backside of the rear fence
And saw a pygmy rattler heading out back into the tall weeds.
From now on, I'm going to have on snake boots to go back there again.
I really need to find the picture the wife took of a bobcat wandering the back
Two years ago. That was the one that scared her more than the little snakes.

Black racer's are rattlers worst enemy, so try not to run those off
