I worked several clinics, McIntosh mostly with an Ortofon a couple of times. People loved the Mac clinics, lines out-the-door with their amps mostly, the tech would measure power and distortion and if needed another tech would repair the amp. It built Mac's reputation for reliability and when they would test some other brand it wouldn't meet the original performance so all the Mac owners were smug.
The Ortofons were interesting, they had a test setup and measured frequency response, channel separation, tracking force and tracking ability. I still have one of their 3000 computer systems, it chugged out a paper strip readout of the specs. People would bring their turntables in and stand in line waiting hours.
