Hello all,

In my continuing search for an seperate amp to power my LSi25's in my HT setup (with a NAD T763 serving as a preamp), I have discovered that there is a dealer here in Fairbanks Alaska that carries Rotel amps! So I went in yesterday to give it a listen on some B&W speakers and......wow! That amp rocks! It will put out 400watts/channel at 4ohms and I think it would really drive my 25's to their limit. I was interested in the NAD C218 THX, but have discovered that NAD no longer makes them! Anyone on the net selling them is selling old units and buyers should beware.

Anyway, does anyone own a Rotel RB-1080 and better yet, does anyone run their LSi's with one? Let me know what you think of it and if anyone has any opinions on Rotels in general let me know. Do you guys think this would be a good amp to power my 25's? Thanks for the advice!

My buddy had the Rotel RB-1080. We thought it sounded it's best only when you cranked it a bit (85 db). It was too polite sounding at low volume. We A/Bed against an NAD 2700 (150W @ 8ohms)and NAD sounded more open and dynamic at low volume.

My question lies with the cost. How much are they asking for the Rotel?

they are asking $999 for the amplifier. I believe this is MSRP. Anyone know if I'm correct?

This was really the best place for the question.

I like Parasound Halo or Rotel with LSis. One good thing about the RB-1080 is that used ones routinely sell quickly for $750-$850. Useful if you might want a further upgrade in a couple of years, but I doubt you would. Rotel amps are a great bargain. If you do get an RB-1080, I'd suggest matching it up with Rotel's RC-1090 pre-amp. The Fairbanks dealer may be willing to work with you on price if you get both together, but probably not if just buying the amp.
