Cambridge Azur 851N Network Player and DAC in Silver - $899 plus actual shipping and any applicable paypal fees.

I purchased this directly from Cambridge's ebay site and used it for a few months. I upgraded to a Marantz reference SACD, so this needs a new home. Comes with original box and everything you would get from the factory. A few very small blemishes but in excellent overall condition.

This is a Polkie price: the audiogon price will be higher. This is the same price Cambridge charges, but you may never find one lol. They charge tax with free shipping, I will charge actual shipping via FedEx ground which should be a little less that tax would cost (I would guess $40-60).

    a couple notes:

    1. This was purchased from Cambridge's refurb eBay site; a new one would cost you almost 2x this much, and they rarely come up on eBay.
    2. Compared to my Marantz SA-14S1, the sound quality is actually very close. A CD on the marantz is slightly superior than the flac file ripped from the same CD on the Cambridge. But I have to turn it up a bit (moderate volume) and really listen to hear the difference. Drew note that he thought the Cambridge sounded artificial and overly etched: I just don't hear that. It also performs well as a digital preamp, so you could have this a a nice two channel amp for a very clean and excellent sounding 2 channel setup.

    Yes sir been saying it for years. In my experience a not so good SACD is still better than the CD counterpart.

    It is live, but I believe you need to have early updates active to get it. Took about 5 minutes for the update.

    I’m a little leery of beta firmware ...

    Question - when you stream a MQA track using tidal connect , does it display the bitrate on the CXN screen ?

    Could you post a pic of the CXN display while playing a MQA track ?

    I know it prob won’t do the entire MQA unfold ( unless the tidal app is doing it ) ... curious to see if it’ll do the first unfold like Mconnect app will .... when using mconnect , it’ll show the higher rez bitrate on the 851...

    Question - when you stream a MQA track using tidal connect , does it display the bitrate on the CXN screen ?

    Could you post a pic of the CXN display while playing a MQA track ?

    I know it prob won’t do the entire MQA unfold ( unless the tidal app is doing it ) ... curious to see if it’ll do the first unfold like Mconnect app will .... when using mconnect , it’ll show the higher rez bitrate on the 851...

    Ok, I'm going to keep this going here, but we can move to another thread if needed.

    So the bitrate doesn't display on the CXN, but it does show on my phone if it's Master or Hifi. I noticed that once I select the CXN, the app automatically switches to Hifi seamlessly when playing an MQA track. I also noticed that even if the CXN is in standby, it remains in my device list on the Tidal app. I can select the CXN and it will turn on automatically, allowing me to 100% bypass StreamMagic when I'm only using Tidal. I updated my settings so that the unit will turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity since I can't turn it off from Tidal.

    Soooo ... it looks like there’s no way to tell if the tidal app is doing , at a minimum , the first unfold - 24/48 , unlike the MConnect app ....

    Here’s a MQA track streamed to 851n via Mconnect app ...

    Screenshot of mconnect track on iPhone 24/48 ..... and it’s playing at 24/48 on 851n .....

    The Mconnect app is able to do the first unfold and send to 851 as such ......

    You’d think tidal connect would be able to do the same at a minimum , but there’s no way to tell .....

    Thought’s anyone ?

    I think Tidal is pretty deep in bed with MQA. They want to make it harder to get MQA, and MQA avoids most abilities to bypass without an MQA dac. MQA wants those licensing fees, and Tidal wants to be the primary source to get MQA, their main selling point.

    So all that to say it doesn't shock me that Connect is doing zero unfold for non-MQA devices. Also doesn't shock me that Cambridge finally released the Connect feature within 24 hours of announcing their first MQA compatible product.
