SDA-2A TL mod question

I ordered a pair of 0.5ohm resistors and 5.8uf capacitors to TL mod my 2A crossovers. I doodled on photos of the crossover to ask if I'm on the right track. Should I mount the resistor under the board, or where the polyswitch was?

Are you upgrading the rest of the components too?Political Correctness'.........defined

I can't imagine doing the TL mod without a total crossover upgrade. -
Alright, alright ill overhaul the crossovers.
I do have two pairs of these speakers at the moment.
I'm waiting to get my crossovers professionally done with Clarity CSA.... maybe Ill do this one all sonicap and test em side by side one day. -
...I have no idea what I'm doing with the soldering iron. This took an hour.
I'll see if I can get my friend's dad to show me the ropes tomorrow. He's retired and has a lot of soldering experience. -
Is this the wrong tool for the job? It's a hand me down from dad. 260w

Definitely the wrong tool. You want a good pencil type preferably a station with heat control. The Weller WE1010NA is very good. If you want something less expensive take a look at the offerings at Parts Express.Political Correctness'.........defined

That is not where the 5.8uf cap goes. It's used as a shunt or bypass cap that straddles the 2.7 ohm resistor, directly after the polyswitch. It forms a contour network which compensates for the the frequency characteristics the RD-0198-1 tweeters have.

is this more like it? If so, I can see why you relocated the 2.7 resistors to the underside!
I cleaned the tip with a scotchbrite on that soldering gun, and changed out the polyswitch on the other side in less than 10 min! Totally different animal.

Correct John. You will also need to change the quick connect on the white/negative tweeter harnesses from .110 to .205Home Theater/2 Channel:

I stopped by my dads today and borrowed a soldering station for his pinball machine hobby.
I'm sure you guys have seen worse

I was using 198s with unmodded crossovers for about 7 months.
After listening to them after an hour or so with the 5.8 caps, the tweeters don't seem as loud, and seem significantly clearer. I like the sound before and after.
Not sure if that makes sense from a technical perspective.. maybe its my imagination!
Its not too stark of a difference though... If somebody put the caps in while I was at work, I probably wouldn't notice.
-
Will you re-new the other caps? The older, especially tweeter cap, is the limiting factor now in SQ.

My new year resolutions are to get the crossovers for both pairs of 2A totally overhauled, get the tweeter plates anodized and/or mirror polished, and build the new baltic birch and/or mdf cabinets! Side by side clarity vs. sonicap should be fun. Might need another pair of tweeter plates.
I trimmed down some 1x1 peel and stick zip tie mounting bases from homedepot to secure the cap. It'd be nice if they sold them 1/2x1/2. -
Use 3m heavy duty double sided tape, it will not come off like those. I've used those twice on projects and they never stick for more than 6mo. The last thing you need is a cap jiggling and just held on by the solder point.

The mirror-polish is easy diy if you have a buffer wheel and black rouge.
Can't wait to see the new cabinets too.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists. -
