I'm probably going to get a dedicated DVD player rather than my PS2 sometime in the following year so I'll be using a simulated surround until then...

Go and get an optical cable (shouldn't be more than $10) and hook your PS2 to your receiver with that. You should then get surround for both your movies and games out of your PS2. There is an output in the back that is covered, more of a square shape than round, that is your optical output from the PS2. No coaxial unfortunately. Also, newegg.com sell a soundcard for $23 shipped with optical output and a cable.

There you go. Get the cable once you get your center channel in, you'll enjoy the movies much better then.

games would only be 2.1 i think, I would still have to use prologic to get surround on them I think.

Depends on how many sources you have for the TV. I have computer, DVD and satellite receiver hooked into my AV receiver and that is then connected to my projector.

You can connect both the computer and PS2 to receiver, then just run one cable from receiver to TV. Once you change the source from your receiver, it will also switch the picture on your TV.

Use component (RGB) connections if you can.

RGB is for video to the TV correct?

And what do I do for surround sound for just TV watching if I were to want it? Use RCA from the output to the receiver and use prologic?

Actually some of them are in Dolby Digital. I haven't tried but a friend of mine told they won't give out the signal in digital but you can get it with analog outputs (5.1).

how do you use the analog outputs for that? There would be 3 plugs that would need to go into the receiver. 1 center 1 fronts 1 rears right?

Yes, RGB is a component source meaning red, green and blue. Some devices have it, some don't. I have my computer and DVD hooked up with component but satellite box doesn't have it. Provides better picture than composite (single RCA) or S-video.

For TV, are you talking about TV broadcast? They are in Dolby Prologic so that's your only choice. As for the output, if you're using a cable/satellite receiver then hook that to your receiver (audio output), if just cable then hook your TV's audio to your receiver.

If you have more questions, e-mail me and I'll be glad to help.

For 5.1 I believe there would be six RCA cables going in. Front left and right, surround left and right, center and subwoofer. This limitation might only apply to PC's (or my friend didn't know what he was talking about), I don't see why PS2 would have digital output and surround games but no support for it. I will have to check myself with some games.

You would have to have external 5.1 capability on the receiver, meaning inputs for all 6 channels.
