Finally lugged the SVS into the house, been in the garage since Friday...
Holy crap! Where did all the room go?

HAvn't had much time to play yet.
Does it matter WHICH port/s I block? (PB2-ISD)

Long weekend, we were at the lake most of it, just got around to doing it this morning...anyway, my rear surrounds are Fxi3's.
I'm not sure what you mean about the coutch being closer to one wall.
On the left side, there is a door opening, the other is the SVS, and It's centered between the two, if that helps!

LQQKIN' good there superbrett. I bet that SVS kicks some butt. ;)

suggestion. you may want to raise your surrounds farther up on the wall. When i first got my surrouds.. i had them at ear level too. the tweeter were to much to handle. but raising them up another couple feet helped with that.

    nice set up btw.

Thanks for the suggestions...actually, I'm drawing up some speaker stands as we speak, I DO want them alittle higher, but I really don't like the looks of them ON the wall. The highest stand I can find is 36", but I kinda like to build things anyway, so I'm going to shoot ofr 42" or so...I'll post some pics when I get em done.
I appricaite all the compliments, this is my first dive into HT, it's really cool to have a forum and support like this!

Agree with dangerboy, place your surrounds higher, you'll notice greater sense of surround effects. In actual theater, surround speakers are placed higher as well.

I use FX1000 one of the largest surround dipole/bipole speakers Polk ever made. Too bad they don't make them anymore. I placed them high as much as possible. They are as good as my fronts. Not too many people own them, the reason is they are big and meant for larger rooms.

    I love them.

Your HK 430 I think it has enough power to drive all the speakers then why you got HK PA2000. Did you bi-amped your fronts.

Indeed I did. I'm kicking around the idea of putting the PA 2000 on rear surround duty, and getting three of the Outlaw M-200 Monoblocks to power my fronts and center.
Not totally sold on it yet though.

I suggest you hang those rears at 72 inches from the floor.Run the wire inside the wall for a clean look.If no access from the basement is there, then go into the attic to run.If no access anywhere, use cable plates, take the barrel out of the place, run the wire up the wall to the speaker location and install the plate(while you run the wire up,be sure to wire it threw the front to back).
system looks good other then the rear placement.Do you run the sub out of phase????I would

    Superbrett,

Do you find that the h/k gets hot?

From the pic it looks like you don't have much room for ventilation for the h/k. I have the 225 and I need at least 6-8" clearance from the top of the receiver to the bottom of my shelf or else it gets very hot. The extra clearance did the trick and now it runs pretty cool....

I only have about 1 1/2" of clearance above the HK, I really thought it was going to be a problem, but It just didn't look right anywhere else.....(according to the Girlfriend that is!)
I have an old computer that I'd had since high school, I swiped the little exhaust fan out of it, and rigged it as an exhaust fan with a small hole in the back of my ent. center.
It's really quiet, I don't even know it's there. I listen at decent volumes in two channel, and have yet had to have the hk shutdown....you're right though, thing does get pretty warm.
    Cross my fingers!

what I have heard is if the sub is in the front of the room it should be at 0 if its at the back or you have two subs on top of each other it should be 180...but that doesn't mean you can set it to what you want if you like it at 0 when the sub is in the back of the room then leave it ...but I do suggest you try playing with the phase

i dont think the tv is directly ontop of the center....look again, closer

running the sub at 180 degrees means that the driver is pulled in to produce bass instead of 0 degrees which pushes the driver out to produce bass ( atleast im pretty sure that's whats going on)

I have found, in my room (even with the sub in the front of the room) - 180 degree phase sounds best. Absolutely slams. lol

For the placement of your svs ... it looks good where it is but doens't it seperate from the sound too much since its right beside you? My dad has his sub in practiacally the same setup as you and my subs are up at the front.... mine blend in with my fronts very well but as for my dads it sounds almost artifical because its so obvious that theres a sub 3 feet to your right (left in ur case but anyways). Although it looks like other placements might not be up to the girlfriend approval standard :p . Just an idea.

Musicman...the center isn't supporting the TV. If you look closely, I made two little "risers" on each side of the speaker, they are just higher than the center channel.
It fools alot of people...kinda fun!

A far as the sub being out of phase, I run it at normal.
I don't have a SPL, but to my ear, it sounds best when in normal.....who knows.

The placement issue.....My receiver has a delay feature which lets you adjust how far away each speaker is...(In feet). I played around a little and found if I delayed the sub by a few feet, it all blended together nicely...Again, I don;t have an SPL....just my ears...no complaints so far!

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

I think it sounds better myself, I positioned it upside down, so it angles upward.
It wouldn't fit directly on top of the TV.

Very nice looking brett. A good investment for audio. I wonder though, why not calibrate with an SPL. Maybe your ears are better than mine but I really did notice that my HT sounded better after I calibrated everything.

    Enjoy your gear man!

Quite simple really, Reel. I don't have an SPL, and when I went to Ratshack.....they didn't either.
I'm sure eventually I will own one, but right now I'm working alot anyhow, and the last thing I want to do when I get home is jack around w/that.
My Harman Kardon remote has a bulit-in SPL, which get's me fairly close to what it should be, but I can't tell how accurate it is.
Ah well...something to look forward to I guess.
