What are the advantages to an outboard? passive crossover.

I would like to know if anyone has compared an out of the speaker box passive crossover to the same passive crossover in the speaker box?

Interesting question. The vibrations might be reduced, but the wiring length will be greatly increased.

In my experience there is not enough gain to go external to do it without additional upgrades.

I only go external when the parts selection requires it.

In some instances you have to tweak values to compensate for the additional wire runs

Yes a couple here have. Let me reiterate, they built much better crossover with primo parts that would not fit inside. Old XO was no longer used.

I was wondering if anyone had compared the difference with the same crossover inside the speaker box to a separate out of the box crossover, kinda apple's to apple's comparison. Just curious to find out if it sounded better not being in the box with all the vibrations and all.
