We had the kids (daughter, son-in-law, grandkids) and in-laws over for a 'cookout' (the term I grew up with) today. Perfect weather. Just grilled burgers (local beef) and sausages and some bean burgers. Topped the burgers & bean burgers with our neighbors' smoked cheese. Most of the sides were/were made from locally grown stuff (mostly backyard stuff -- 'maters, onions, romaine, basil). Nothing fancy, but an excellent afternoon.

    Now we're tired.

We'd planned to have fresh corn on the cob, but none was locally available -- we've had a few nights in the 40s, and the local farmstanders said that its slowed the ripening of corn to a crawl. :(

Mrs. H made a bean salad that more than made up for it -- 'specially since she added some corn kernels from corn we grilled earlier in the week.

Nothing a few ice cold beers won't solve. :D
Almost time for the game hens and hot links to come off.

What's your BBQ music pairing today? I feel like that should be part of this discussion too.

@marvda1 - I’m cracking up that the first ingredient for your pork is kosher salt, complete with the Jewish star!
  • Not quite as exciting, but I've got some pesto chicken on the grill.

Ryan's (ZLTFUL) wife cooked some great hamburgers and fries last night for Russ(lightman) Judy and I. She made this mushroom sauce with wine and bacon that was to die for....

Made my 5 hour drive home a little slice of heaven.

Thank you to some excellent hosting and wonderful company.

Gas grill...I try to cook the smelliest and messiest stuff on the grill. It uses less propane than people think🙂. Also closing the lid does speed up the process but beware all that hot 🥵 oil!

There's a small lamb shoulder roast sitting in the fridge under a dry rub right now.
I'm going to give it a few hours at 275 with a bit of cherry tomorrow.

    It may work.

Gonna cook for the holiday week going down to the 70's! Italian sausage and peppers, chile verde, jerk chicken, some big **** scalopes, and grilled squash. I am retarded, I mean retired, the calendar means nothing.

Just cheeseburgers and dogs, fresh corn, and bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers on the grill, but using 2:1 apple and jack daniels wood. Fresh zipper peas with new potatoes on the stove. Bourbon-spiked ice tea and Andy Gator to drink.

Appreciate the variety, quantity, and pictures many of you did. God Bless America!
