LOTR Trilogy

As I understand it, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy that is being released is only mixed in 5.1 surround, as well as The Return of the King. But the 1st and 2nd movies (extended editions) are in 6.1. I'm sure the extended edition of ROTK (whenever it's released), will be 6.1 also. But has anybody heard if the trilogy will packaged together in 6.1?
Love the movies, and I'd like to get the most out of them as I can!!

Nothing personal Mike, it's just funny to me how the focus of movies these days centers more on the sound track instead of the content of the movie. Sad really!Political Correctness'.........defined

There will be a 3-pack of the EE Releases all in DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete.
Also note every theatrical release version has DD-EX 5.1 Extended Surround, which is a quasi 6.1 rear channel matrix mode. Lot's of rear surround action in the DD-EX soundtracks.
And there's nothing wrong with wanting a DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete option; it's a true 6.1 technology and the best currently available and it's a big selling point for many who are considering the EE versions (in addition to the extra footage, etc.)."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

With technology moving forward, this is a bi product of what people wanna see.WOW factor is high these days, but no special effects can make up for a great story..I agree.
It happens in home theaters all the time.people want there sub's blowing up the room and the rears kicking the back of there heads in.most people don't enjoy a properly calibrated system. They want BASS sloppy, boomy,**** sounding bass is whats exceptable ,I don't get it

Funny how these "NEW" HT/LOTR fans know nothing of what is going on with the EE's. The EE's ALWAYS come out a BIT later.
Yes, the DTS 6.1 IS WELL worth every wait and penny spent. IT is like the difference between 480p and 1080i.
Plus being laid out on two disc the PQ should be a bit cleaner for the HD's out thier.
Should i get the widescreen or the fullscreen? I'm missing alot of the movie with those black bars everywhere. -

This is certainly true for me. Most movies that I watch now I probably wouldn't have bothered renting if I didn't have a surround sound system such as Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR, Master and Commander, and many other popular favorites, but I'm more interested in the sound these days. IMO, the sound is the movie. Just like popular music, most of the content in movies today is garbage.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I agree that having surround sound at home has really motivated me to rent movies that I wouldn't normally rent. I've even stopped going to the theater to see movies I would normally rush out to see. Most of the time I just say "hell with it, I'll wait for DVD." Hell, sometimes I think the sound is better at home than the theater. Bass is cleaner, surroung effects are more prominent because the speakers are closer to the listening position, etc. The only thing I'm missing is a big screen, and someday my finances will allow for a digital projector in the home.
Mantis,
I'm curious to know what your idea of a "properly calibrated" system is, and what you define as clean vs. **** bass. Thanks.Current System:
