Watering down top-of-the-line LSI speakers

The older LSI line with the Seams on the finish is being replaced by a new LSi line with no seams...
Thats my understanding.
You also have to understand when retailers like CC and such buy speakers from Polk, they pay HALF what you buy them for (in most cases).- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Sorry Mike, we are buying them here from stores at $160 after taxes (limit 1) Last week it was $215 after taxes from an authorized dealer. Perhaps it is more that they are getting everyone hooked on their speaker and then coming out with the more costly models.
BTW, I have bought 6 pairs already...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
Mike,
If I were in your shoes I'd probably be pissed too. In fact, I am pissed at Paradigm right now but that is another story. If it is any consolation, from what I understand, ALL of these low priced LSi7s are refurbs.Graham -
This happens all the time with products. Not just speakers. Newer models are introduced or an updated "fresh" look hits the market and the older models are liquidated.
Some examples here. I saw some Soliloquy 5.0 speakers that sell for around $1,000 go for less than $500 a couple of months ago from an authorized dealer. New models out. B&K AVR 307s sold brand new under $2,000 when the 507 came out. Original cost was $3998. B&K drops AVR 507 prices down to $3,000 just a few months later. How do you think all the folks that paid $4,000 for a brand new 507 feel? Spendor S8 speakers that retail for $2,600; new model S8e comes out and the S8s are being blown out at authorized dealers for less than $1,500. Look at golf clubs. Same thing here. Its just business and recuperating cost. Inventory held up in stores equals less cash flow.
Sometimes to get the best deal its just a matter of luck and timing. I can understand your frustration but that's just a part of life. -
Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this........but quit whining......really.
EVERYTHING you buy can be had for cheaper. It happens ALLLLLLL the time, and this kind of a note won't ever change that. Do you REALLY think that Polk has people employed to liquidate their speakers on places such as Ebay? C'mon......
If you want to feel happy and elated again because of the SOUND OF YOUR SPEAKERS, go ahead and buy an entire setup again at the lower prices so some of the sting can be taken away...
If the fact that they're less money now makes you dislike the way they sound, you need to have your head examined. Relax and just enjoy what you have..........comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
I just bought a set of brand new, brand name golf clubs off ebay for $59. Gee, I hope no one is pissed off at me for getting a great deal because they paid retail price for the same set of clubs. Maybe I should give them some of their money back.
If you were Matt Polk and you had excess inventory to unload, what would you do -- Destroy the 7's? Give them to charity? Or sell them off as quickly as possible to make room for a new and improved product?
Also, you may have been misled by the seller who told you he was a Polk employee. Did you verify this?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Early, I'll PM you my address for you to send some of that saved cash to......:DWhen the dealer tells you to go for the Rolls Royce...calls it the newest line of high end speakers from Polk...this was two weeks ago...and never tells you about the fact that the line will get major overhaul and price points will drop big time, the you are being deceived.
You need to be aware that even on a current line, things sold on Ebay do NOT have full manufacturers warranty, so if you're ok with that, buy all ya want but do NOT come in here then bitching because you dont' have a warranty. It's a trade-off, and if you have a problem with ZERO warranty, feel comfortable with your purchase.......

Yeah I bought a very nice set of custom made clubs that were last years model. I paid four hundred for the set(which was a good deal), and now I see the same set of last years models can be had for 250.
So was I pissed....umm not really. Because it's like buyinbg a new computer, you know you are getting screwed 1 month down the road.
Look I paid 6 hundred for my pair of Lsi7's in Febuary of 2002. even then I could get on EBAY and have a chance at a pair for 100 dollars less. So this has been going on since they first came out.
You have to look at it from a different perspective, are you getting your money's worth out of them? You were willing to pay X-amount of dollars for the LSi's. Was your money well spent? For me I would say yes. Although I have had over two years use out of them.
Oh and BTW the four hundred dollar clubs were well worth it since they dropped my average score by ten shots. Now I am shooting in the mid-high 80's. -
I knew that people here would probably reply to your post strongly but don't think it is appropriate that you were threatened in a PM.
I hope you report the PM to a moderator. -
Francis.....I find it somewhat hard to believe that someone would actually threaten you about your fairly skewed condemnation of Polk for what you perceive to be their evil ways, but it shouldn't result in a threat.....
Also, while I'm sure you believe your re-post at the beginning of this thread to be a finger flyin, I can assure you that people playin victims to other forum members here will get you ZERO sympathy.
If you do understand the concept of rapid depreciation of audio and electronic equipment, then your entire original rant was pointless. You can't blame Polk as a whole because of what some dealers were doing, which is what you did. People that come to this forum and stay are people who REALLY like Polk speakers. It's no surprise that people would contradict what you believe to be a mass conspiracy to screw the consumer by a company that we all support........
Good luck on your future purchases, and let's hope you don't feel you overpaid for them later.........comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Some people need to buy from authorized distributers at or close to msrp to feel safe and secure.
Some people pay less than 40% msrp from elsewhere.
The difference between the above scenerios is obvious. The problem is when the authorized distributers come down to the "real" competitive price it pisses off the loyal customers who put their faith in the store when they purchased them. How safe do you want to feel? Personally I only give the extra cash strictly when I feel like supporting a particular store, otherwise I find it elsewhere much cheaper and take my chances.

It's just retailing....No difference than buying a new 2004 Mustang when they first come out in 2003 and getting a decent deal, but they really aren't discounting much because demand is still high. Then comes the summer of 04 and a "NEW" bodystyle has been announced, inventory is high and Ford and the dealers want to get rid of some cars...out come the $5,000 (or more) rebates on top of below invoice pricing. Could have saved a few thousand dollars if you waited...but hey...you've had the car for a while and hopefully enjoyed it. No conspriacy here...just good old American retailing. No sympathy from me...Just enjoy the speakers...or sell them at drastically reduded prices or whatever..."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Ya always have to wonder about the ones that come in kicking and screaming, then leave with their tail between their legs and delete their posts as if they had nothing important to say in the first place.......
Good luck to whatever he decides to do......:rolleyes:comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
I do wish he had not deleted his post. I've posted hidious things in the past I wish I had never said but I have left them in place. Just because. I've always thought that if I said it then it is part of my profile and whether good or bad, it is part of my history. We all live and learn and what we think at a given time is part of who we are, or were...

Brett,
Don't you think you are being a little hard on Mike (Francis) here? We all make mistakes and perhaps he just realized that and deleted his post for that reason. The guy's relatively new here and by reading some of his posts he seems to be knowlegable on audio. At the same time I can understand his position with what he may have paid and what the going rate is today. It happens.
Anyways, Mike you are still welcome around here as far as I'm concerned.
Nothing against you here either Brett. I just would like to give Mike some space here and an opportunity to be a good contributor to the forum.

I don't care if he posts, but don't piss and moan and then throw a tantrum and bail like a toddler. He was blasting Polk for something that they have ZERO to do with.......period. I just find it humorous that he found so little importance in what he had to say that he deleted it entirely, revised it 2 or 3 times, then left with ".."
I'd rather someone said nothing at all than to do this kinda thing and (in one of his revisions) say that this forum is composed of irrational people because people aren't agreeing with him. Cry elsewhere IMO.......comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Didn't catch all the revisions today Brett. I've been at a barbeque all day. At the same time I can see your angle here as well.
Like the old saying goes "the only people that don't make mistakes are the ones that do nothing."
If we all did nothing on this forum there would be no forum. Let's just let this one go and see what happens in the future. -
no worries.....all his revisions happened probably within an hour or two of his orignal post.....
