French Riviera, Monaco?

Anyone been to either? Canns, Montpelier or Monaco?

Last year we did a 8 day full country tour of Ireland. Loved it. Some of you may remember some pics. Next time I want to drive on our own schedule.

Next year we are doing Alaska. So 2022 I'm looking at a self driving tour of the French Riviera.

If not that then maybe we will fly into Amsterdam and stay a few nights then drive to Antwerp then through the tunnel to London. A couple nights in each.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be great.

Thanks
Chris

No, I haven't been out out of the states. :s Not even to Florida yet. :#

But it sounds like you have a great time sightseeing. :)

I hope your air-fare is dirt cheap with you-know what's going on.

I worked with a guy who went to Amsterdam when he was 18. He saved a ton of money since he was a very frugal guy. He always turned his leftover money into their currency. He said he was going to retire in Amsterdam. I'll bet he's there now, enjoying his dream plan. :p

The French Riviera and Amsterdam are two very different places, but both are beautiful and historic. You couldn't go wrong with either. If you do Amsterdam stay in the area and do London on a separate trip.

I agree on limiting a trip to Amsterdam to just that general area. There is so much to see in the Netherlands and Belgium. Maybe take in Luxembourg and the Ardennes too on that trip. Although London is interesting and definitely worth a separate trip that is by far not the best place in Britain to visit. Head for Scotland too. Also, they drive on the left side of the road so a separate car rental is better. :)

Depending on what you're into - The British Museum in London is absolutely fantastic, as are all the other historical sites. London is not to be rushed. England otherwise has a great deal to offer. Some of my friends used to go on tours every summer that were several weeks long. One such tour was just to the Lakes district. They spent a good deal of time just in that area. I'm sure you loved Ireland. I once went with those same friends and spent three weeks just touring around the entire island. Been back three more times since then. The year after I accompanied them to Ireland, they went to Scotland and spent three weeks traveling around the country - they told me it was the best trip they ever did, and they did many over twenty some years. Amsterdam is a great city, with several excellent museums and of course the city centre, but I'm not so sure I would take a family there - except maybe to fly in and travel out of. It is a city with much that I would not want to expose children to, let's put it that way. If you're going to London, or other parts of England for that matter, I think I'd fly right into London. I would never drive in London, I rented a car once in Bath and drove all over Wales and southern England but even Bath was really hairy driving, you get used to driving on the wrong side of the road in about five minutes in the rural areas but in the cities you have to make split-second decisions and everything is backward. When I took the car back they told me the last American who rented a car there came back crying after a couple hours having smashed up the car. I've been to France many times and to Marseilles and Provence, but never to the French Riviera. One of my buddies has been there many times, but he speaks fluent French. I had some difficulties in certain places in France.
