Marantz SA-14S1

I've been listening to some SACDs this afternoon and really loving the way it sounds. Anybody have some discs they really like the sound of? Mostly classical and jazz, but really anything well done.

All of Elton Johns are well recorded. I enjoy those greatly.

    Ken,

If you have only one SACD in your collection....it should be this one:

Hope all is well with you!

    Cheers,

Also forgot, the Mercury Janos Starker Bach Cello Suites are very well done as well....

Great, thanks, Troy! I have the Starker Cello Suites as a master tape copy, they were a wedding gift from my wife. I appreciate all of the suggestions.

    So far I've played:
RCA Living Stereo, Beethoven and Mendelssohn violin concertos (Heifetz and Munch)
Music for Organ, Brass and Timpani
    Bill Evans Trio
    Jim Hall, Concierto, MoFi

Really enjoying everything, especially the Heifetz and Bill Evans. I could hear the small duets between the violin and the flute so clearly. Sweet.

Ken listening to digital?! And enjoying it? Wow, 'zat a cold front I feel? :p

Glad you're enjoying it, Ken. I think 'Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone' was really well done and can literally get lost in it - late at night...lights down low...Macallan on the rocks... Also, I really like Norah Jones' 'Come Away With Me' and some of Dianna Krall's stuff - all well recorded.

Thanks for the suggestions @teekay0007 I'll add them to my search list. I bought a Sony SACD changer from a CP member along time ago. I put a few new parts in it and began collecting discs. At that time they were being sold in "regular" CD stores and I managed to accumulate a good assortment, especially the RCA Living Stereo which I had the vinyl to compare. Now a friend made this Marantz available and I can go over the old collection with way better results.

The top row only are SA-CD. The others are good too, but you know that. :)

    Midnight Sugar, Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio

This one is excellent. The SA-CD version has been on my wish list way too long.

Careful on the Norah Jones Come Away With Me (sounds good but not a mind blowing difference from the red book layer).... the masters they used weren’t high resolution to begin with which is true of a lot of the early SACD’s. Lot of garbage out there.... the Diana Krall stuff, particularly Love Scenes and The Girl in the Other Room is great....on some tracks the sibilance of her microphone is noticeable but do not detract from how great the music is.

Love Scenes is my goto when I'm making sure that a system is what I want it to be. LOL The imperfections in the recording process make it seem more authentic to me and makes it sound more "human". I guess that's the jazz musician in me. LOL

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, I'll be checking these out. @aprazer402 , I already have the Midnight Sugar disc I'll listen to it this morning. The Jazz at the Pawnshop is another well known favorite. I played an Eric Dolphy SACD yesterday and it sounded excellent.

I like Diana Krall-Girl In The Other Room on SACD. More soundstage depth is evident in this disc over the redbook version.
