I've decided to just wait for the EE. I saw it in theatres and am dying for it at home. I know I should just buy it, but I did that with the last 2 theatricals and ended up selling them and buying the EEs.

My Sony subwoofer actually performs very well for this movie. The specs say it goes to 20Hz and I believe it. I'm sure it isn't quite the quality of an SVS, but it suits me fine for now, until I get a higher paying job anyway. Just imagine what this movie would sound like with the SVS 16-46 PC+!

I guess I'm the only one who didn't like the movie. Too long, too chopped up, too genderless (esp. the fairies and the hobbits). I'll give it a C-.

Oh well, there were some great sounds in it. If only it were in DTS...

Well, since you didn't like the movie, there's not much point in telling you this, but the Extended Edition will offer a DTS soundtrack, and will add 49 minutes, which may help to alleviate the "chopped-up" feeling you got. Can't help you with the "genderless" stuff. It's pretty touchy-feely, especially the end, but then again that's what the book is like. I don't think the homoerotic undertones are necessarily overt, let alone intended, but you can certainly interpret it that way without too much effort given the great deal of affection the characters show one another.

DTS you say? Hey, definitely might be worth another look.

Maybe I just don't like the "film like" style. Call it bitching if you will, but I'm standing by my opinion on this one, I still think there is room for improvement. Anyway, I plan on having fun tonight watching this again with my friends.

Sony SAWX700 dual 10" woofers. Circuit City sells it for $300, but you can find it for $200 at bhphotovideo.com, however shipping will bring it up past $250 again. An SVS owner will probably tell you it doesn't compare, but I've found it to be great thus far. It's a little boomy, but you can tinker with the output level based on what you are listening to.
