We're doing the June gloom bit. It's cloudy along the coast in the morning then the sun shows up in the late morning, but inland 15 miles it's always sunny. Housing is WAY OVER priced here, but's worse in the SF bay area. Got gas at Costco yesterday for only $2.23 DOWN .04 since Friday.

Yes, Tony, that's why Merri and I live in Naples, Florida. Cough, cough. where there are still homes that cost under $300,000. My cousin still lives on what's left of the old family farm - up by Oakhurst, just outside Yosemite Nat. Park - so I keep in touch with California prices - and live at the other end of the country!!!
Born in Fresno, love California, but won't afford to live there. However, if I ever DID move there, your part of the state would be numero uno in my book - fog and all!
It's morning, and I'll call it quits for now - with thanks for your postings - and thanks to ALL THE POLK FOLK for help along the way to The Big Receiver Purchase! Larry R -
Wow, what an amazing amount of posts in just one night. Just wanted to add my congrats to your final purchase Larry. Glad you took the advice. I don't think you'll be disappointed. A bit more advice. With my 701, I usually use the STEREO mode for rock music, and the DTS NEO 6: MUSIC setting for classical and opera. There is a setting which allows you to send the full output to the mains (L/R fronts), which lessens the center output but makes it so that the center channel doesn't subtract from the mains. This is the best setting I've found for orchestral, it really seems to open up the sound in comparison to just playing it in STEREO mode. May help tide you over until you can afford that SACD player. The manual should explain it all, but if you have questions, let me know. It's really a nice piece of equipment. Hope the weather cools a little for you. Sorry I was asleep when you asked the question about "America's Finest City," as I hear that on the news every morning when I get up, as I live in San Diego. Anyway, have fun. Oh, one more thing, I just invested $80 in a new digital coax cable called the Silver Serpent from Bettercables.com. It's supposed to be one of the best out there for audio hookup. I'll let you know how that pans out. If there is a real audible difference, I may recommend that to you as well. Take care.

Yo - good Polk Folk friends - I've about run out of steam on this thread - and have started another one: "Onks and oinks" on Advanced>electronics>onks and oinks.
I hope that y'all join me there - I'll miss you if you don't. The new thread will deal with my soon-to-come Onkyo 701, its hook-ups, and all the testing I'll be doing. Bring a towel or Kleenex to the site - my "projects" usually result in both tragedy and high comedy!
Hope to see you there - and THANK YOU!!!!! Larry R
