Is Mirage still in business?

I remember years and years ago Klipsch or Jamo had something to do with buying them or shutting them down. I haven't heard anything about Mirage in a very long time.

Anyone know what happened to them?

I think Klipsch buried 'em. Klipsch bought mirage, energy, athena, and Jamo in 2009. Energy and Jamo kept putting out speakers for a while, I don't think mirage had anything new after that purchase unfortunately...

I owned a mirage BPS-150i for years in my dual purpose system. Amazing little sub, especially for music. Really fast and tight. I actually just bought a pair of Mirage Omni 60s for the HT room to see if I could get a little bigger soundstage. Only watched one movie so far, but I like what I'm hearing...
Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es; Squeezebox Touch with Bolder Power Supply

I always thought the Mirage sounded nice. They were great for HT and the soundstage they created in 2chan was very detailed.... wide and deep... I thought the OMD-28's were really sweet and outperformed their Klipsh counterparts.

I wanted to create a WTF Happened to Mirage thread a couple of times but never did.

Shame all those companies are gone. The world around us keeps changing.

Absolutely. It seems like not that long ago that there were literally dozens of companies producing great sounding speakers...

There still are a mess of them, it seems to me.
Actually, I have the impression that there are more than ever -- which, given all of the modeling and testing tools today, kind of surprises me. Seems like all loudspeakers being made today ought to sound the same and just like Floyd Toole thinks they should. ;)

    Back to Mirage.

I refoamed these (L-750 three-way) for the guy who built our house for us. They were (are) quite nice.

    https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/mirage-750-review.22246/

(full disclosure: one of the two midrange drivers had a bad voice coil -- to make a long story short, I ultimately retrofitted them with a pair of those 4" CTS drivers Polk used in the Monitor Series Model 9 and Mini-Monitors) which were virtually indistinguishable (to my ears) in performance. The original drivers are hard to find and a quote I got to rebuild the bad one was (I thought) outrageous.
The woofers in the L-750 appear identical to those used by Roy Allison in his first line of "Allison" loudspeakers (FWIW).

I also found these very early Mirage (SM-1, if memory serves?) at the ol' Harvard town dump & refoamed them. Also very nice, very basic sealed monkey coffin two-ways.

(also refoamed a pair of SM-4 - small two-ways - for an old friend back in MA some years back -- don't have a photo of those handy, tho')

I used to go listen to them at Tweeter (formerly Bryn Mawr Stereo) when I worked in Cherry Hill NJ. It was a fun place to spend a lunch hour.

I always wanted to hear the big SDA's and M1si's in the same store. Although they were different animals, those M1's were also imaging kings.
