Monitor 5... Suitable for Rock/Metal

Hey Guys and Gals. I came across a pair of M5's locally for a hundred bucks. I want to get something for my teenage son for in his bedroom. I have never had the privelage of listening to a pair so I am wondering if these would be suitable for his taste in music and if it is a good deal?
(I'm not sure if we are allowed to post links to CL listings here so I will not until I know its OK.)
He listens to classics like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and new stuff like TOOL, Mudvayne,.... etc.. His room is good sized.
He doesn't listen at super high levels and he will be driving them with a Harman Kardon HK3890.
Whatcha think,.... should I jump on them?

Yes. That's a good start.
Then he can move up the Polk speaker ladder which is what a lot of us have done. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I should have added that I can hook him up with a Dayton Audio Sub-1200 If needed.

There are several versions of the Monitor 5s. Do you have a photo? All versions roll off in the mid 40s, so a decent sub would fill in the low end nicely.

I believe they are just 5's... Here is a link... (Mods take it down if you need to. I know some forums dont like CraigsList postings.)

OH yeah I am an XO tweeker. Figured new caps would be in short order. Not sure if thats water swelling or if they have been droped. I am waiting on reply from the owner.
They remind me of a pair of Infinity rs 425's I owned many moons ago. -
I was reading on here about the tweeter upgrades. These look to be the 2000 model. Is the 1000 a better tweeter? what tweet do most people move to? I also have a bunch of loose tweeters and am thinking the Philips AD 0163-T8's silk domes I have mite work well

Be sure to run them with a high current amp, they like the juice. The 5s alone will work great with the older rock and metal, but the newer stuff will require a sub to help keep up with the bottom end.

This ^^^ drop-in replacement, or you can modify them for the RD-0198.
