Pretty vague about the frequency response.......+/-2dB in the audio spectrum lol.

That's a good question -- they look too long (or tall, I suppose) to be 845s(?)
Some transmitter triode, I would guess?

I think I have a very old, RCA 845 with it's box and instructions. I'll have to take a photo of it and post it.

@mhardy6647 Photos I took this afternoon of the one old RCA UV-845 Tube I own. Old box and two pieces of instructions (they probably go together.) The second one has a date(?) of 1-29 in middle of the first page. Could this tube be that old? Enjoy.

    That's a beauty.
They are wonderful tubes for hifi -- but not for the faint of heart :)

I don't know how far they date back, certainly could be from the late '20s. EDIT: See below!
The 75 watt plate dissipation spec on yours suggests (per the VTV article) that it's an early one. Nice tube. :)

Read all about the 845 and the 211 in https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Audio/Archive-Audio-Magazines-Other/Archive-Vacuum-Tube-Valley/Vacuum-Tube-Valley-09.pdf

EDIT (see above): Looks like RCA's "UV845" dropped (as we say nowadays ;) ) in 1931.

That is a thing of beauty @aprazer402. Yes it could easily be that old. Heck I have some tubes here that were made in the early 40's.
That tube could be worth a small fortune if it is NOS and still tests as new.

I also have a Western Electric 10-D. I do not have the horn section. I would imagine the horn piece is the more difficult to obtain. It's still a cool old item. Photo is from this web site, to show the horn piece, if anyone has one laying around. :) I have the circled part.

Last year at Axpona Western Electric had some nice gear they were auditioning. They had several amps that used their 300b tubes.
It will be interesting to see them again this year and how they are moving forward.

The WE horns were (are)... something else. :)
IMO (and FWIW): contact Joe Roberts if you ever want to do something with that WE "receiver" (as they called their drivers).
  • Those tubes look like KR's. The amp could be a Kronzilla. It's just a guess. I remember seeing KR tubes on "How It's Made." When I saw that episode, the first thing I thought of were 845 tubes. It seem to me the KR's were bigger.

Yeah, mebbie so. Kron made a buncha tube types at one point; they were reputed to be pretty darned good, if memory serves.
