CD Player Recommendation?

I’m considering a CD player purchase, but want to keep costs down.

What is the best you’ve seen in the used market at, or around, $200?

What’s a “CD?” Is it like an eight track or rekkid??? Jk. Is this just going to be a transport going into an external dac, or will you use the players DACs?

I'm the wrong person to ask, but when I first joined, a Pioneer BDP-51FD was referred to as a good "bang for your buck" CD player. This would be an inexpensive choice, probably $50-100 used. I'm sure someone will chime in as to how it compares to other used players in your price range.

What’s a DAC? 😉

Great questions! I want the player to be quality enough on its own, while still having the option of using an external DAC.

Thanks to everyone who posted recommendations!

I learned of some players I might not have discovered on my own.

Unfortunately I needed to buy a 24’ ladder this past weekend, so my cd player fund is gone.

I’m still using a cheap and noisy Denon as transport into a DAC; all in all still pretty good despite the noise.

Noisy electrically or mechanically? I use a dump-find Denon DVD player of no particular pedigree (i.e., a low-end one) as a transport; it actually works fine and (for whatever reason) sounds better than any of the other CD players I have here (including, believe it or not, a couple of decent quality examples) in terms of the music that comes out via the Karmic Bryston DAC I use.

Fiberglass, at a pawn shop for $100 less than new. But Home Depot would have charged $255.00 for the same.

Matter of fact, your Denon appears to be the same one I have. Nevertheless, mine’s mechanically noisy. Very loud disc-spinner, imo.

Model DVD-557. Seems like I remember reading somewhere the difference in model number is to distinguish between public and professional models, but essentially the same player.

It’s been a while, but I finally got a replacement disc-spinner for my noisy Denon DVD-557 (still have it).

Picked up a Denon DVD-2800 for $25 serving transport duties and running to a Jolida Tube Dac III.

The transport mechanism appears to be very well-designed based on online photos and is super-quiet. The player is quite heavy, especially compared to the player it is replacing.

good players for CD. They did have the chroma bug for video. A very good deal for 25.00
