A few of you here know that my new job has me away from home for 3-4 months at a time. To help offset the negative of being away from family for that length of time, I’m seizing the opportunity to meet as many of my audio forum friends face to face, when I find myself in their neck of the woods. Being tasked to the California area (San Diego to Sacramento), I decided to reach out to @nooshinjohn , as I knew he resided somewhere in the greater LA area. Even though we’ve never spoken to one another beyond PM, I figured being a fellow Polk/Carver enthusiast, I’d give it a shot. Sure enough, John was up for an evening of music, conversation, and food (in that order).
First, the music. For anyone unfamiliar with John’s system, words and/or photos just can’t do it justice. Tonight I experienced the best demonstration of SDA sound I’ve ever heard. I thought I had heard it to it’s full potential before, but I was wrong. I was in essence listening to a full 7.1 soundfield, coming from his 2 speakers. We surfed the FLAC files, playing both of our favorite reference tracks. I was not disappointed on a single one of them. Then he fired up the vinyl rig. He has more invested in his vinyl source that I spent on my first house. Literally. Again, beautiful sound reproduction.
We chatted about current forum happenings (both agreeing that Jesse showed unbelievable poise during the last troll attack), current events, and our journeys along the audio path. I got to meet his lovely wife and son as well.
Then it was off to a local Mexican restaurant. This was great, as not being from CA, I’m weary venturing into the uncharted Mexican food scene - uninformed choices in this arena are a true game of Russian roulette. John picked a great place, and we had a nice dinner.
John was a wonderful host, especially to someone he’s never met before. We had a great time, and as I’ll be out here for another couple months, we’ve tentatively planned another meet-up in a few weeks.
Thanks for your hospitality John, you provided a nice break from hotel life!

Sounds like a great outing. I always enjoy time spent with the 'Like Minded'.
If your travels ever bring you to mid-Missouri, look me up!
I'm heading to St. Louis this morning to meet and spend a little time with Victor, aka 'Halo'. Really looking forward to meeting him and also getting our Listen on.

Agreed Jesse... Mark, it was a pleasure to meet you in person, and thanks for the kind words and for stopping by to spend some time. I look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks.

One of the great things about finally meeting folks who have (in some cases) been speaking with you for years or even decades, is you already feel as if you know them. Once the "official" introductions are done and you get over the fact that no one actually looks like you thought they would (unless pics were taken previously), the good times start immediately.
Glad to hear of this. I have not heard one bad thing about folks meeting other forum members over the years. Only funny stories and lots of laughs combined with some killer feedback on other folks' systems/gear swapping. Kudos to the both of you. Glad you were able to meet John, Mark. One of these days, perhaps I will have the same pleasure to meet the both of you.
Rock on.

Spoiler, Tom is bald- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Not to derail, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mike today. Very pleasant fellow! We enjoyed some very good music, some excellent BBQ from Bogart's Smokehouse, and I'm looking forward to visiting his home and checking out his gear in the future (SDA setups!). All good stuff! Thanks so much @Mike Reeter
One of my new bookshelf speakers arrived today and I think Mike was more excited than I was to get 'em up and running. Very grateful for his help and they do, indeed, sound splendid!Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Perhaps a sticky thread for discussing our meetings and get-togethers with other members would be a good idea and a great way to gather some perspective on what this forum is and has always been about. The Gear... Yeah. This forum is a great place. It is not really about a love or hate thing. It’s a family thing. Brotherhood. And like all brothers, we say or act kinda too direct at times. But that is brotherhood not seasonal friends type of thing.
No hard feelings beyond whatever is debated.
Awesome to hear about your meet up! It is what makes this place awesome.
Cheers to all!! -

Damn, I was just out there at the end of December for a couple weeks - Springfield, Osage Beach, Joplin... I will definitely hit you up if I end up out there again!“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

Will do - and while we’re at it, if any of you find yourselves in the SLC area, hit me up. If I’m home, I’d love to host a fellow music enthusiast!“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

Ironically enough the possibility exists that may happen for me.
