Nope, it's me.
Still trying to love them.
They do some things well, but they don't grab me like the Altecs do.
I really, really do need to get a proper pair of modern speaker stands for them to get them to the correct height in the manner that they "expect".
Fortunately, they were cheap.

I got a pair just sitting there I didn't do much more than hook them up to see if they worked. I got some boss cables, Libtecs from Paul to try em out with. I think the cables are worth more than the speakers.

There's a new version out now, the ELAC Reference DBR-62. AJ can't seem to stop tinkering with the Debut series.

I'd like to hear a pair of those... umm... ELAC Carina stand mount loudspeakers.
More to the point, though, I suppose -- I'd like to hear them, the KEF LS50 and the Polk L-200 head-to-head-to-head (so to speak). Would be an interesting way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Speaking of which, I would share two musings:
1) I wonder what led ELAC to recycle the name Carina for a loudspeaker? I mean... it's been done.
2) I do wonder if the "AMT" tweeter in the ELAC Carina (and in several other new, and not particularly inexpensive, loudspeakers) is the exact same one PE is selling and using? Looks... umm... suspiciously similar. Not that I am the suspicious type...

That new ELAC ELAC DBR62 Debut 2.0 Reference Bookshelf* thingy is an attractive little monkey coffin. More like a squirrel coffin, size-wise.

* man, them ELAC galoots oughta take up a collection and hire somebody to name their loudspeakers. Heck, crowdsourced names would be better than the alphabet soup names they come up with (especially for their lower-end products)!

Heck fire, I think it's really attractive!
It kind of reminds me of the rather uncommon (bass reflex!?!) KLH Model Ten (of many, many years ago). The Ten had a similar front trim (white or off-white plastic), but it had Henry's then nearly ubiquitous, almost burlappy grille cloth.

In fairness, some of the recent Klipsch products get that retro-sixties look pretty right, too. The stuff they actually made in the sixties didn't usually look so good.

I guess I'm just not partial to it though I do think the white color w/ white grill looks much better than the black with the white grill (just looks off to me).

I like my loudspeakers wood grained... call me old-fashioned...

I had a pr. of these beauties for a long while. Sold them to raise some change.
Damn... they were mint and sounded FANTASTIC too!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
