Neat-o. Thanks for sharing the link; I shall watch it anon.
There is definitely a place for quantitative assessment (as long as quantitative obsession is avoided, I'd opine) I think JA does a good job -- especially with loudspeakers.
FWIW, I have a lot of respect for him. He (and now im Austin, his successor as Stereophile editor) make themselves available on the Critics forum @ AA. They get a fair amount of guff there, but they handle it with admirable (and, from my perspective, remarkable) aplomb.

Hi Mark,
I especially thought of you while watching this interview. A lot of good info on how and why the measurements are taken as opposed to just taking measurements for the sake of of taking measurements. Makes me rethink a few things about speaker positioning and how to test a set of speakers out in my room. Enjoy!Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Thank you for posting! Quantitative vs. Qualitative discussions occur quite often in my world. Sometimes it's impossible to extract an amount "quantitively" from the market you and others can rely on, if so, you sometimes know your number "qualitatively" based on ones knowledge and experience can suffice as well. With modern valuation algorithms by several big corps. big data is improving. But they need to talk to each other as each ones proprietary programs differ and so do the results when applied to a given market. It ain't near perfect yet and neither are we! EDIT: Sorry for the little rant!
