New Polk in the house

Greetings everyone!!
I have been wanting a large set of vintage Polks for a long time now. A pair of 2.3tl’s pops up on eBay so I drove 8 hours round trip to pick them up. Well worth the trip as the speakers are very nice maybe 9.5 out of 10
mg9hi1ickk0y.jpeg
One speaker has 198’s already installed while the other speaker has the original 3000’s. Not sure if any other mods have been done, but really like the sound. I have been looking at all the mods available and hope to start them soon. Currently being powered by Bedini amp 250 watts 8 ohms and 500 watts 4 ohms, High current amp.

@taylormark, Welcome to Club Polk! Nice score....they look to be in great shape. The 2.3's are the only speaker in the SRS line I've not owned but have no doubt you'll enjoy them. Upgraded all my SDA's and money well spent. Thanks for the introduction.

Congrats on your new 2.3TL's, they look to be in VERY good condition compared to most! Hopefully you have the SDA Interconnect as well?

Get your read on and try to do some well documented mods to them, they will pay you back in Spades!

    What!

No blanket on the dolly...Shame on you. :)

Congrats on acquiring a beautiful pr. of Polk Big Boys!

I also see what look to be NHT speakers too.

    Welcome. ;)
Look forward to hearing more comments compared to your other pairs there.

  • Hi
Thanks for the warm welcome. My other speakers are infinity’s iiib, NHT 2.9, Bose 809 and recently restored KEF 104.2’s. Currently found a good combination of Harman Kardon with the iiib, Yamaha DSP A1/NHT 2.9 , Bedini on the Polks 2.3tl and Akai with the Bose 901. Please don’t as which I like best because it changes daily lol.
Recently retired 2 older SDA’s due to the new 2.3tl
Also got owner’s manual for the 2.3tl if any one is interested

This photo was in preparation for the new Polks
  • Great find and a GREAT PICTURE~lots of goodies.

Congrats on the 2.3tl's. I have been looking for a pair in the upstate NY area for a long time but have not had any luck. I currently have SDA 2Btl's and love them but I have heard such great things about the sound of the 2.3tl's that they are on my bucket list.

Enjoy them and let us know let us know your impressions as you get more hours on them.

btw, just curious: what city/state did you end up getting the speakers from?
Unfortunately (for me) there have been a few nice pairs listed on various sites in the last year but all seem to be in TX or CA.

Your correct that’s what I have been seeing as well, they were in San Diego, they had been on EBay for almost 30 days, and local pickup only. I had been watching and wishing and finally got some Extra cash as a Christmas present and jumped on them.

Don’t think I have used it since it was put up there, the Harman Kardon deck is much nicer anyway.

With the exception of the Yamaha and big pioneer I have restored and recapped Everything in the racks.

    Hi
I really like the infinity’s But they are a difficult load for an amp, they love the juice. The emt tweeters are amazing. When I first got them the bass was pretty week. The foam surrounds on the woffers had been replaced and the woffers were not connected correctly. Once I fixed that and connected to the HK amp they really shine.

Some of this looks VERY familiar to me. :p

I have a fully-modded pair of 2.3TLs that I bought new in 1992. A year later, I bought an Adcom GFA-555ii to power them. In 1999, I bought a Yamaha DSP A-1 integrated that looks exactly like the one just under the reel-to-reel.

That DSP A-1 was and still is an amazing HTR for its time. I purchased it new for my home theatre from our local Audio Store, I was intending on getting a set of Polks at the time, but instead wound up with the NHT 2.9’s and matching NHT’s for the surrounds. Now I don’t watch movies so have repurposed them for 2 Chanel audio. I have the DSP A-1 connected to the NHT’s still a good match. Very nice BASS and clear highs from the NHT’s. I see the NHT 2.9’s at very reasonable prices, if you come across one jump on it, It won’t disappoint.
