My nephew is the sales rep in Nashville for Martin Guitar (he is married to the daughter of Chris Martin (CEO Martin Guitars)) just got me a deal on a Martin M-36 0000 size acoustic guitar.

I guess he was tired of looking at and me talking about my Taylor and Ovations and made me a deal that was just too good to pass on. It is a beauty. Saved about $1500 of street prices.

    My Martin M-36 arrived today.... I gotta say she cleans up pretty nice...

    Plays like buttah! Beautiful tone beautiful wood... Spruce, Rosewood, mahogany neck and bridge, ebony fret board.

    I think next I will pester my nephew for a HD-28 next...

    Ive been to the factory and watched them being built. I took the tour it was awesome.
    I believe Martin makes the best sounding guitars on the market for Acoustic. They are also German. The Original Martin was from Germany. Interesting story to learn.

    There are a lot of fine guitar makers out there. Martin and Gibson have stood the test of time for sure. During the 80's they made some meh guitars but now seem to offer some budget priced and some high end stuff. Taylor being a relative newcomer has done some very innovative things to modernize the construction and tone of their guitars.

    Guild, Yamaha and Collings also make some beautiful instruments. I have a few Ovations that have their purpose as well.

    I am sure there are others too that sound great... To me IMHO Martin is the standard by which all others are measured. Materials, build quality, tone and playability are all there. And they hold their value nicely as well.
