What the hell is going on with gas prices? Can it possibly get any higher. When is it gonna end?

My guess is it will peak at $2.25 a gallon for reg. ($1.95 cheepiest in my area) then they will put it down to $1.95 to make us feel it is a bargin  . This will also cause a trickle down effect, everything will go up as a result (mail/UPS/Fed-X ect.) anything that is delivered will go up, I had to raise my prices to compinsate for the rise in gas and fuel, not to mention the free est. are going to become a bigger burdon then they were before. THIS SUCKS! but has to be done to make something.

On the radio one day I heard about a study they did on gas pricing. They said that $2 per gallon today is pretty much equal to the quarter (or less) per gallon it cost in the early 60's. They said that relative to the economy it is actually cheaper now than it has been for the last 40 years. I guess it makes sense if you look at the $1.50 per hour you might have made in 1960 vs today...

You guys have it easy compared to us in Canada. We're approaching $1.00 a litre now.(4 litres to the gallon) and we get paid in Canadian dollars so there are no wage benefits like the UK. There is also the fact that coming from Alberta, there are at least 3 friggin refineries within 30 miles of my home. I was just in Jamaica and their gas prices are the same as here. Granted the roads there aren't worth $%&* but come on. Last time I checked Jamaica wasn't a leading world producer of oil. Oh, well, at least as oil prices go up our government gets more oil revenue...... hmm but my taxes went up? WTF?

Ah true you are, (speaking from experience in that I work for a major Oil company) what you don't know is that the major brand names take the "generic" gasoline out of the pipeline and add additives to formulate "blends" (higher octane, detergents, fuel stabilizer, etc). No-name gas will run in your car/truck/SUV, but you'll pay for it in the long run as the carbon deposits build up on your valves, piston heads, etc...

As for what's driving the price up, I have no clue. We pump as much oil out the ground as we can, however the US can only produce ~ %25 of the oil that we consume. The rest is imported from other countries like Venezula, etc. It's the law of supply and demand...

And NO I don't get free gas, I don't even get an employee price.

Worst think about gas prices going up is that everything that moves by truck will have to go up as well. We are looking at inflation. BTW Supper in San Francisco, CA is as high as 2.99 a gallon and rising. Have not seen a $3+ price yet but I agree it is coming.

When the cost of food clothing and shelter go up, the rich are anoyed but the poor become homeless and children are affected the most. I doubt anyone here on this forum is in danger of being homeless. We need to fight for our middle class. We need to fight for our country before we loose it.

No, I knew that too. Are you saying that the cheaper gas doesn't add the additives and stuff like that?

Exactly. Some companys sell the raw product right out of the gasoline pipeline coming from the oil refineries before it ever hits the blending plants. Some companys put some of the additives in, but not nearly enough as what you would get from Chevron, Texaco, Shell, Exxon, BP, Mobil, Amaco, etc.

To be honest, with this day and age of credit cards backed by companies like Exxon, Chevron and Shell where you get a 5% rebate on the gas price by using the card, you can get a brand name product as the price of the 5-and-dime shop on the corner. Case in point, my girlfriend asked why I was filling up at a major brand name station @ $1.94 when across the street was a RaceTrack selling regular for $1.86. 5% off $1.94 = $1.84. Now given the choice between a major brand name and RaceTrack.....

I can tell when I have cheap gas in our car. We have an 04 4Runner with a V6. My wife got gas one day and put the stuff at Sams or Wal-mart in and I noticed it as soon as I drove it...and I didn't know what the problem was until she told me what she had put in the vehicle...

Oh, and it doesn't like the regular stuff, only the Plus...

    Hijacking sorry.

I've also found cars like the same gas all the time from one name place or the other. Some cars like brand A where others like brand B. Switching back and forth confusing a cars EMS thus hurting performance and or gas mileage. I would never put off brands in any car I owned.

    Just my $.02 ;)
