WTB - Used 2 or 3 Channel Amp for RTI12's

Hello,

I am in the market for a 2 or 3 channel amp to run my 2007 Polk RTI12's, maybe a 3rd channel to run the center as well. I am currently running an Onkyo 818 and with all of the research I have done it sounds like a separate amp would make quite a bit of difference in sound. I do agree my RTI12's are really bright, so would like to pair with an amp that would tame them.

Thanks,

Mike

A NAD 2400 PE should do the trick, or the C906(?) 6 channel bridgeable.

Don’t bridge the feed to those speakers.

Parasound 1203 or Rotel 993 - both stout 3 ch amps. If you come across a stout 5 Channel - no harm, no foul leaving two channels unused. I tri-amp my center w/a 5 ch Rotel

  • Hello,

Thanks for your responses back. I ran across this HCA 2003A on Ebay, the price looks a little high and there are no returns, would this be an acceptable amp and any worries about buying a used amp of Ebay like this?

In overly simplified terms, bridged power is roughly the equivalent of two batteries in series - 2X voltage*, no add’l current versus two batteries in parallel - same voltage, 2X the current.
    *almost always higher distortion.

Those speakers really like current. I’m sorry for my generalized thinking/advice. I’m a NAD* fan me self - I have several pieces of early 80s gear*.

Great choice**! Wait for others to chime in on the $ - I think its a little high* but I’m far from an expert on their used “up-the-line” equipment pricing. I own several of their lower end items, 2 HCA 1000s*** & an 855.
    * plus $100 to ship
** you’d need a much bigger pile of $ to upgrade from that
    *** Same designer, less compromise

    Patience will reward you sir...

    Thanks

It’s a bit high, but those are rare so not as much to compare to.

I bought a rotel RB993 for $600 shipped, great amp at what I think was a fair price a couple years ago.

Where are you located? I might have something for you...

If you're still looking... I have a Parasound HCA-806 that might be a decent fit. I used it for a few years with RTi12's and, later, RTiA9's in a master bedroom HT. Warmed them up nicely. That rig was SO much fun. Used most recently to run 3 pairs of Polk in-wall satellites.

I bought it used in '12. Still going strong. Bridgeable channels (never tried). Scuffs and scratches, one noisy pot, very good sound.
Info: https://parasound.com/vintage/hca806a.php [Edit: This link shows info on the A version. Not sure how they differ]

    $275+shipping.
You can return in same shape if not happy. "craigw29" on ebay since '98.

  • Than you everyone for your responses. @vcwatkins - I'm looking for something that powers 200w+ per channel unfortunately. @spgmsmg - I reached out and it sold already. That sounded perfect.

Still open for ideas if anyone comes up with anything!
