Polk RT2000i speaker improvements or suggestions from users

I am going to pick up a pair of these in the next few days . they both work I am told but I know they have their own amp built in.

was wondering if anyone had made improvements to them. had anyone removed the amps and run a outboard amp(better quality) on them.

they are from early 2000 so i figure someone had experience with them .

  • I see manual states 3 different ways to hook them up. which is the best ?
  • nobody using these any more?
  • Keep in mind the internal amplifier is only powering the bass drivers, not the whole speaker. You can certainly use an external amplifier with no problem to power the rest of the system.
The best connection method depends upon what else you have powering them and the audio chain itself.

Hook them up like you would any other speaker. Personally not my favorite series as those bass amplifiers go south and or create a low volume hum eventually. Which is irritating to say the least.

  • i havnt taken possession of them yet. not sure why I am bothering other than to see them. I think I will just stick with what I have or buy some older klipsch. I dont particularly care for speakers with built in amps and this is why. they never last.

i just wanted to make sure nobody had taken them and made them better. guess it was not really worth the effort. if my amps had xovers built in then I might play with them and see but they dont so. ill keep hunting.
  • They are fun to play with if they work and if you get them for a deal.

  • I searched for them for a long time and have used them for well over a decade as well. I have sent both plate amps out to be repaired and they keep rolling along (well worth the $). They still bring a smile to my face daily, those little green lights are so cute.
