LSiM 702 FX Vs FXi A6

LSiM 707/706 front stage is in the mail! Then I saw the 702's were on sale...

No question they're superior and my desire for a timbre matched set is strong, but knowing the rear is not nearly as important, how much of a difference might I really notice?
Use is 75/25 movies/music. Prefer straight stereo for music with the very occasional Multi-Channel Stereo for being extra loud/showing off/party mode and I certainly don't care about timbre matching in those scenarios.

Or...Am I being silly and $400 for $1500 new surround speakers is a no-brainer or not a big enough deal to irritate the wife by another $400?

Sincerely I’m already here. I personally wouldn’t spend the money on the surrounds. I have the fxia4’s and am planning on just using those with my 707/706 front end.

The most obvious difference besides the timber match is that the FXi A6 are Dipole/Bipole and the 702's are direct radiating / monopole. If you ever plan to go ATMOS, they don't recommend dipole/bipole speakers but direct radiating (monopole) speakers for the surrounds. The 702's could be a plus in that situation.

Its hard to say what will work for you just based on that alone. IMO, the only way to know is to try them in your own system. The other points are IMO, the 702's look a little neater on the wall but again that is subjective.

I once had the 703/706 set and always wanted the 702's as I love the look of them on the wall. I currently have surround speakers with the same half cylinder shape, the Artison Portrait LRS . Mine are dipole 3KHz - up, monopole 3KHz - down

I was looking at the prices and thinking about the 707's but they might be too much for my room. I really want the 705's. However, the 703/706/702 combo would kill mated with a couple of subs. Hummm.....

So, if it were me, I'd go for a full LSiM set.

LSiM 707/706 front stage is in the mail! Then I saw the 702's were on sale...

I was thinking the same, though my current setup has in-ceiling surrounds (80F/X-RT) and in-wall rear surrounds (65RT). Cutting into the walls/ceiling to route new speaker wiring for side surrounds would be a PITA (basement ceiling, gear in adjacent room). Though a friend of mine (who happens to be a well-known A/V reviewer/calibrator/consultant) was over earlier this month and commented if I added side surrounds I could repurpose the ceiling speakers for Atmos duty (7.1.2). Hmmmm....

So it's tempting to buy a pair of 702s for the future, should I ever do a big enough upgrade that requires lots of wall/ceiling work, such as 7.1.4, 7.1.6...

With my 707s/706 arriving this week, I'll also order 80F/X-LS to replace the ceiling RTs as they will be a five-minute swap-out as they use the same cutout size. That way five of the seven speakers will be timbre-matched. I wish they made a 65LS so I could do the same for the rear surrounds. The 265-LS are taller and might not fit between the sound panels and ceiling soffit (~21" clear, cutout is 19-3/16", grille flange is ???).

I recently retired my FXiA6's and replaced them with the 702's...…..big difference, much happier.

I enjoyed the Di/Bipole speakers for years and loved the way they put the action "in your face" but now I'm really appreciating the subtlety of the 702's.....much more!

I much prefer the 702. Great looking and great sounding. YMMV.
