Is anyone else here into old kung fu movies from the 70's and 80's? Shaw Brothers movies, Gordon Liu, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, etc?

This guy!!!! Love 'em, especially early Jackie Chan. I have a rather large selection including all 3 36 chamber films. Been wanting to get into Wolf and Cub and blind man Yatoichi (sp). I also enjoy Studio Ghibli animation.

I have to be honest, I really didn't expect anyone here to know about 36 Chambers. Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee probably but not Gordon Liu.
What are some of your favorites that have a chance that I haven't seen them?afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

There's a lot of kung fu films on YouTube for free. Amazon streaming video is also a great place.

There are many martial arts movies dating back to that time period. Classics. Not necessarily in the American market.
Give me some time and I will list them for you. I.e return of the dragon, game of death, Kung fu 12 kicks, legend of condor heroes

Does The Karate Kid count.... back in the early 90s, we'd watch tons of Kung-fu movies. I would not go and watch the old ones again as I find them to look a bit cheesy. Acting is not very good and neither are the SE.
-
Does Kentucky Fried Movie count? REALLY silly B-rated film that includes a spoof of Enter the Dragon called, A Fistful of Yen. It is 'extra ordinary'.

Funny you should mention this. I was just looking for a blu ray version of Shogun Assassin.

I've been watching Kung Fu the 70's T.V. show on Amazon Prime. I remember seeing it as a kid but never paid much attention to it. Watching it now in order, it's still a pretty good show.
Caine vs Captain Kirk....

Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan are good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think Gordon Liu gets enough credit. As cheesy as these movies might be, the choreography and physical skill here is seriously impressive.

Just in case you don't know, Gordon Liu suffered a stroke in 2011. I saw a recent photo of him and he seems to be in good spirits.

I hope this is not seen as me being a "name dropper", but my uncle is Chor Yuen. He was a movie director in the 60s and 70s for Shaw Brothers Studios. See if you have seen one of his movies from his page at IMDb....

My favorite was, "Circle of Iron", from about 1979. Of course I was like 16 years old at the time.

Being the Jackie Chan fan that I am, I recognized his face as a character from those films. -

Sorry I missed your post. That is definitely a cult classic.
Out in Los Angeles in the early 1980's we had Kung Fu Theater on the weekends. Tons of great movies from the popular to the lesser known.
