Looking for advice on speaker stands
Once I get my Athena's sold, I'll be getting a set of Lsi9's. I don't want to go crazy here, whats the best bang for the buck in a good set of stands for the Lsi 9? What are some good brands to look at?

Further, I saw your plot on your new SVS. I need to do that with mine. If it is not too much trouble, would you mind sending me what you used please. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks- Greg

Kind of pricey, but these look nice if you like the thick look to them:

The bottom of the LSi 9 (the ebony part) is exactly 7 inches wide and over 13 inches deep. I prefer the top plate to be as large as possibly to minimize chances of tipping the speaker over.
Audio Advisor has a large selection of speaker stands. Some eBay searches may help. I lucked out and got some nice stands used from my local hifi shop.

If you've got the tools I would HIGHLY suggest building your own. I built some based off the TNT-Audio Stubby design. It was a pretty easy and fun project. The beauty of DIY is you can make them look however you want. You can make the top plate the exact same size as your speakers. You can paint them any color you want, and make them as tall as you want. If you go with MDF for the wood you could probably make them for less than $50 and they'll probably easily weigh over 50 pounds when filled with sand. My stands are much more stable than any stand that I have seen for less than $150. The only stands that I've found that would come close to DIY stands in value are the stands from Parts Express but they have a very large top plate. And one more thing, don't forget to get Blu-Tack. it will keep your speakers from falling off the stands, and does a great job of damping and keeps your speakers safe!

Steve,
I'd like to understand your thought process ...
Your selling you Athena's because you state you won't have room in your new house ... but ...
Your wanting the LSi9's to be on stands, assumedly floor stands ...
How does this setup not take as much floor space as the Athena's ?
Did I miss ? or incorrectly state something here ?

The stands will be temporary until we ge into the new house , which will probably be a year from now. i still have to either come up with an interesting solution for getting the speakers off the ground, or talk the wife into a different entertainment center--which i don't want to do, the one we have is very nice, and she gives into my "audio wishes" 99.5% of the time, so she's gonna get her way on this one.
The problem is, the new familyroom has about 4' less floor space because of a corner fireplace; I can't get the entertainment center, 2 floorstanders and a sub into that space, so I'm thinking of building shelves off of the sides of the entertainment center to raise the Lsi9's off the floor enough to clear the SVS, but yet not be too high to where fidelity is compromised.
You guys have any ideas/suggestions? All help is welcomed!
Envision this, draw a line 10" long (1"=1FT). Now, at the right end of that line, draw a line 45degrees for 4" (this is the fireplace). The 10" line represebts the wall I have to play with to get a 7.5FT entertainment center, and a 16" diameter SVS sub into. So, somehow, someway, I've got to get the Lsi's off the floor..HELPSource: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
Ah ... I got it now ...
However with 10' of room - 7.5' of entertainment center = 2.5' of speaker space or 1.25' per or 15".
Is there no chance the sub can go elsewhere i.e. a back corner ? If your X/O is fairly low I wouldn't think you'd notice. -
It's a strange room, only 2 walls (open space floorplan) but I'm gonna look at the display house again and see if I can't find another location for the subwoofer.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
