Some records sound great but some give me a significant amount of crack and pops which can go away as the stylus makes it toward the middle. I'm guessing they are a bit warped on the outside or damaged?
Would placing a weight on the center help at all with that? I have balanced the turntable a few times even using an actual contractors level both front to back and side to side, including on the path of the tone arm. Tracking and anti skip still playing with those 1.8 - 2.5 range. I've considered getting that tuning record but $50 is a little much to spend on that. Anyone care to share their tuning method? Keep in mind this is my first turntable so there is a chance I'm doing it wrong
A weight has benefits, but it’s not going to fix any of those issues. A weight really doesn’t “fix” anything except very very minor warps. It really just helps tighten up specs by a small amount.
I find that running the tracking force at close to the top end of the cartridge range tends to consistently work a little better. You can buy a digital tracking force scale on amazon for $10-15, it’s well worth the investment because it lasts forever and is much more accurate then the markings on the counter weight.
Cleaning and dealing with static will give you the greatest instant improvements. Some records require more than one cleaning (even new records).
Any specific scales you can recommend? I was looking briefly and there are of course a bunch of them. I do use an Audioquest brush several times before lowering the stylus the record. I've not looked into anything to deal with static but do try to remove the records slowly out of the (Mofi master) sleeves.
This is the same one I have. Zero issues.

The antistatic sleeves like you have are really the best thing you can do for static. What are you doing for cleaning?
I've received the scale. The lip seems angled up and didn't offer a lot of clearance for the stylus. Is yours more flat wondering if it's defective ? The scale seemed accurate per 5 gram calibration weight. I set my tracking force to 2 grams which was just a little over the 1.5 setting on the actual markings on the turntable. The 2 marking was closer to 2.5 grams. -

Thanks I'll add that to the routine to use Di water. Our water is fairly soft with minimal lime build up. I don't plan on cleaning new records this way but for what it's worth they sound a lot better. The clicks and pops seem to also go away after a few playthroughs on a freshly cleaned record. -
Not sure about the lip. I’d probably need a picture. But it sounds like you got things squared away. It’s good that the TT defaults a little heavy vs a little light.Analog: MoFi MasterTracker > MoFi UltraDeck > Sutherland 20/20

Finally spinning some records now. I give it a thumbs up from first listen, Bottom end has more punch. Mids and highs are crisper and more detailed.

Managed to get a pic. Does this seem normal?

I'm sorry -- what are you comparing it to? I don't remember and I am too darned lazy to go back & look? Same cartridge?displayname wrote: »Not sure about the lip. I’d probably need a picture. ahh! OK! That's very clarifying. Thanks!

Is there a notable difference between the Red and Blue M2 cartridge? I'm hearing you need Bronze or Black to really get a bump in performance. Would be open to upgrading in the future.

I've never spent significant time with the Red, but I had the Blue for awhile. I've heard from people who are more familiar with the 2M line that many thing the Blue is really the sweetheart of the line as far as bang for the buck goes.
If your Red is in need of a stylus change, then it makes sense to move up to the Blue. If you're looking in the price range of the Bronze or the Black, I'd try to get your ears on them, plus some other stuff. I think there are a lot of really good options in those price ranges, Hana, Grado, Nagaoka, MoFi, etc.
At a certain point, the arm/bearings will be a bigger limiting factor than the cart. It's hard to say what that is exactly. The cart will always make a difference. But there is a point when you're likely not getting everything a cart has to offer without a better arm system.Analog: MoFi MasterTracker > MoFi UltraDeck > Sutherland 20/20

Appreciate the insight it is very helpful. Will definitely try the Blue when this one goes out. Also washed the first record today with a distilled water rinse and it sounds very good. Regarding the scale just wedged a thin butter knife underneath and straightened out the platform by pressing down a bit on the front. Didn't want the hassle of returning it. Checked it with the calibration weight and everything is still good. Now to listen to some records! -

Gone already...
Fluance needs to fix their website. I immediately added one to the cart, and then the website came to a crawl. By the time I finally got it to the checkout, the price was back up and the message said the coupon code offer was sold out. Odd though... they still had RT80s for full price. -

sounds to me like their website's working just at they planned
They probably figure some folks either won't notice the "price increase" or they'll just buy it anyway.
