well... if you're interested in open baffles, here's the thread for you.
    https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/open-baffle-epiphany.566879/

These guyses are obsessed with them.

    :)

I've played with OBs, off and on, for a couple of decades, and I have... umm... a fair collection of OB-appropriate drivers (generally speaking, a driver with fairly high Qts provides a sense of "bass" even on a moderate-sized baffle). Keep going back to more traditional alignments, though.

The laws o' physics, however, are pretty much immutable.

(from the JE Labs link below)

Many of (ahem) us are boosters of the OB recipe popularized by Joseph Esmilla ("JE Labs"). He didn't originate the design (as he clearly points out on his blog) but most folks still call this the "JE Labs open baffle".

The Polk Audio forum probably isn't the best forum to talk about OBs, though ;)

Full disclosure: I am a bit of a JE fan; he designed the amplifier I use :)

@BlueBirdMusic: now you’re talking! Looks like a really nice pair of 15s. Unfortunately I’m in Dallas. Thanks for the research.

My Newform Research r645's won a speaker shoot out twice last year. They went against my Polk srs2's and Triton Ones. Now the Triton Ones weren't set up properly so...

But still, the ribbons he makes for the r645s are very nice sounding!

The 630/45's are amazing. I wish I had those. I've wondered what SDA's would be like with those ribbons.

I am hoping to hear some Triton's this week.

I have seen the same model around here for $200 or so. They look immaculate but not $400 worth.

I agree, but I think the bullnose cabinets go for a premium. That being said, $600 is pretty rich.

Yeah that's about what I have seen. $200 average, $300 on the high side. I mean they made and sold a GAZILLION of them things.

Heck I even have a set of the newer Large Advents...Jensen era of course but I dig em for casual listening.

I even have a set of mint bull-nose cabinets. I saw a "Free ad" on Craig's list. "On the side of the road" it said. They were 2 miles from me so I went and they were there. I heard from a guy talking to him a year later, he saw the ad too and went but they were gone. :D

I've been wanting to buy some bad woofers off of eBay and re-foam them. Also, maybe buy some tweeters off of eBay too. Just one more project in the to-do list in my head! ;)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
