I agree with this for my tastes too. Even the aluminum tweeter made by Seas for Totem on my Rainmakers is a little to bright for me. Nothing like a good quality soft dome.
The ring tweeter on the Lsim had to be replaced on my old 705’s. Not sure if that was just mine or just poor quality.

I don't. The only speakers I've heard integrate ribbon-esque tweeters appropriately in new speakers are the Evolution Acoustics. Those ain't cheap either.

I also don't like the cheap ring radiator and hope they moved away from it.

A good cloth dome tweeter is still darn hard to beat in affordably built speakers. It doesn't have the air of a ribbon but it sure does blend better with the woofers. I just flat out don't like the RR - the top shelf ones are fairly nice though.

I may be lost in time and space. But the Elac’s I had with the air motion tweeter were the most impressive tweet I have experienced to date.

Ring Radiators. Never was bar standard for me. Even with the high end. I believe Sonus Faber used them as well.

Again. I could be way out of line being out of audio for so long being bankrupt.

    Cheers.

I liked the folded motion tweets I heard on a pair of ML motion 12s. GoldenEar has had a lot of success with them as well. That is a line that seems to hold much of its value based on recent used prices.

You guys need to get some ears on Salks RAAL ribbon tweets then. Just like all soft dome's aren't created equal, neither are ribbons.

I might also second the preference for a really good cloth soft dome, over a ring radiator. Less listener fatigue in those cloth soft domes and seem to be not as picky with associated gear.

Diamond tufted (or pleated) Naugahyde would be nice too. Makes a statement, you know?
Maybe a color organ as well?
(Not sure if they're still doing market research).

Yeah! I see some big stars using Kustom bottoms from time to time even today. I had a black one but not that precise model. Went to a blonde Fender Bandmaster.

Now, wouldn't that be a look for these purported new Polk loudspeakers? They could be available in white and black (for WAF, of course), and also in red, white, or blue.

    OK, I'll stop now -- I promise.

I don't have issue with ribbon tweeters. It's the integration that is the issue. Getting an open, airy tweeter to mate well with a confined, boxed-in woofer is a challenge that many cannot do. It's almost an impossible task.

The Scan Speak rings are nice but pricey. I thought Salk and Vapor Audio did a great job incorporating the RAAL in the Soundscape and Perfect Storm with Accuton midranges.....great sounding speakers but pricey!
To continue the goal of greater scale and dynamics with higher sensitivity, new midrange drivers would be needed as well, but no suitable drivers existed at the time. To meet this end we turned to our past proven partners, AudioTechnology and Accuton. Both provided us unique to Vapor Audio 8” midrange drivers ideally suited to covering the vocal range, drivers that could do so with authority and clarity unmatched. But in transitioning to a larger and more impactful driver to cover the vocal range, a hole opened it their ability to ‘bridge’ or match with the RAAL tweeter. Another driver would be needed to fill that hole, turning the Perfect Storm into a 4-way speaker. Again, when the needed was identified, no suitable candidate existed. However Accuton expertly filled this need with their all-new C51 Cell midrange. This small dome driver delivers the high sensitivity needed, and does so with amplifier like low-distortion levels, it is exactly what’s needed to cover the gap between 8” midrange and ribbon tweeter. https://www.vaporsound.com/speakers/perfect-storm/

That C51 cell midrange is interesting.
    https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-2-midrange/accuton-cell-c51-6-286-2-ceramic-dome-midrange/

I really want to get my ear on the Philharmonic Audio BMR monitors. The RAAL & BMR midrange is supposed to be a great match with the Dennis Murphy crossover work.
