I just bought a PS 111 subwoofer as you can see I'm not tech savvy.
I have a Dish receiver and a Polk soundbar and a flat screen TV

Which Polk soundbar...exactly.
Normally, you need a receiver to hook up the subwoofer. Some sounbars come with their own subs but are not interchangeable for other subs.HT SYSTEM-

Does the TV have analog audio outs that are volume controlled? Are they active when the soundbar is connected? The answer to both of those questions is probably, no. So, you need a receiver or you need to find the wireless subwoofer that came with the soundbar.
