Thoughts on CD changers?

Need to get a new (to me) changer for the main rig. Don't worry, I'm getting a single disk player for dedicated listening (most likely an SACD unit if for nothing else but to have the option). Looking at units with digital outs, been eyeballing soney ES pieces, but also saw a Marantz that can handle mp3 as well (the ES units don't have that option that I saw).

So, I pose the question: which brand/series to go with? HQ is desired, but not required as this will be used for general listening throughout the house for chore work.

Years ago I had a sony 5 disk changer, played sacds as well. Decent sq, easily upgradable. Bought a squeezebox III from @AsSiMiLaTeD. Sold that changer and never looked back...

I have a Sony at work I can part with. PM me if you are interested.
It's a five disk changer but I don't remember the model off the top of my head.
It does SACD. I find the SACD really nice on these. The redbook is just so so.

Remember not too long ago when 5 disc changers were at almost every yard sale for chump change? Now you very rarely see them much like the older silver faced gear that's also disappeared.

Unfortunately, I don't think the paucity of 5-disc changers at garage sales is correlated with a spike in their prices :p If it were -- I could be a rich man ;)

Sony made a couple DVD one’s that played SA CD
I had the 400 disc non-ES version, but it crapped out a few years back
I’ve had the 300 cd one for 16 years. I had to replace the belts inside but other than that it works great.

Sony made this guy (400 disc) universal disc changer, and others in the carousel type. There are others that make a universal player sliding tray style.

My dad kept a small binder with all the discs Alphabetized and the associated slot number. One page per letter so you could add stuff as we added discs. We only had the CD version, can’t remember exactly how many discs. I had pretty strict rules that I could not touch the physical unit unless he was in the room to supervise.

The unit I currently have (cx-850D) has non volitile memory that you can program with a keyboard and monitor so that you can search without a binder or cheat sheet. It just won't do SACD or MP3. Oh, and it's full of DVDs...
