DISCLAIMER: My co. phone is an iphone, which I don't care for for several reasons
My contract with VZ is coming to an end in a couple of months, and I have to say, I am NOT happy with the S7. All the apps are slow as hell, and I'm thinking of jumping to a 3rd party on the VZ network, and looking for alternatives, i.e. LG, Motorola, etc.

Good luck with that man. I've checked out all other brands so many times. Tried out friends other brand phones and even many Samsung models which are supposed to be the best at running android. Windows phones IMO suck , LG phones are nice or ok at best. Then you circle back to the iPhone and you realize you where really just checking out the hot new girl next door but your wife smokes her.Dan

I’ve been carrying an iPhone SE for about 3 years now. All the phone I want or need. It’s the only iPhone I’ve had and chose it cause it’s still a small phone, and for me it’s great.
But the Galaxy S3 in pebble blue was my favorite ever, it was nearly perfect in its day.

Love my S7. Of course, I use it mostly as a phone. The main app I use is the remote control for the stereo. For anything else I use the iPad.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Best phone I've ever had is the Samsung note 8, use it for work and play... Super durable, super fast, pen is handy for the work side, sweet camera

Android takes a bit of work to keep running its best. With a few tweaks though, I enjoy the devices. I'm partial to Samsung now, and still using the S7, but used to prefer HTC for a few devices in a row. HTC lost me with the LCD screen on the M10, which doesn't work with polarized sunglasses.
When looking at a new phone, don't let the user experience/interface influence you too much. You can run Nova Launcher to customize all that. There are package disabling apps you can use to disable the bloatware without rooting, and this really helps tremendously with performance. You can also use it to prevent system updates, which I try to avoid, at least initially.
It's tough to pick out a device these days. You can't really test anything while in the store, because they're all set in some demo mode, it seems.I disabled signatures. -

Depends on what you want a phone for.
Some phones are a phone first, with some apps for entertainment, GPS, and internet. Phones like the iPhone or S8 are hand held computers first that also make phone calls.
TOTL phones are good if you conduct business on them daily. For casual phones though, most any of the other brands will work though I might choose one with the best camera I could.
As always, going too cheap on a phone will get you a less than satisfactory experience.HT SYSTEM-

Scott and I have discussed this before offline. My last several phones have been HTC, and I currently still rock an M9. IMO HTC build quality/feel is better (read 'not plastic'), but sadly I don't know if the company will survive. The models I've used are not without quirks, but I have remained loyal...perhaps to a fault. I have rooted my last few HTC phones, and in the past was a habitual flasher of custom Android ROMs...spent a lot of time on the xda developers forum. Never had any issues with my iphone and it has always served me well. Honestly, they all seem about the same to me these days. Take pictures, listen to music, use maps for directions, check email, browse the internet, etc. The differences in cameras, screen resolution and so on are fairly minimal to my old man eyes.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

Yeah, aside from a few neat features like the gestures and stuff, TouchWiz is the worst part of the Samsung devices, imho.
Get a different launcher, using Package Disabler Pro (Samsung only, if I'm not mistaken; There are others out there for the other devices) and OS Monitor, and take control of your device. You won't break anything as long as you don't get crazy with process disabling.
I think both major platforms have their merits, but the control and options aspects are a couple of the things I like better in Android.I disabled signatures. -

$1K???? Well if my Note 2 ever dies, I won't be getting a new Note, I look for a used one on Amazon or Ebay!
