Going 4k. Question

With the price down on 4k TVs I'm going for it. My question is: if the tv i buy is HDR capable do I also need a 4k player that has HDR? Or does that even matter?
Any suggestions for a 4k player that might also play DVD-Audio and or SACD? Budget is about $350.00
Thanks

HDR is the only option, as it somewhat future proofs you until the 8k sets come out in April. The Gear... I would say jump on a Sony 4k player, they can do dvd-a, and upscaleing is fantastic. Can't get Oppo anymore, so that's out.
-
So I don't necessarily have to find A4K player that quotes HDR?
-
Any of the upper end units will support HDR

I've been eyeballing this one. Sony UBP-X800.

It's what I have and there are NO complaints.
-
Also consider there are currently multiple HDR formats including HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+, and possibly a couple more. It may be a good idea to wait for 2019 models of 4K Blu Ray players to come out to see what they're up to in terms of HDR. All of them improve dynamic range, but they are slightly different in how well they do so.
4K HDR content is also available for streaming from Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, etc. Some TV sets have the apps for those services built right in. -

Any chance it will play SACD? You did say it will do DVD Audio right? -

Fixed it for you
HDR is up for grabs

The Video part of my Home Audio Video system is on a tighter budget than the Audio.
I am looking at a few TVs. The only features I am making sure to have is at least some form of HDR, 120 or higher refresh rate. Other than that just want a good picture.
Apps are not important as I dont run any audio out of the tv. All is done at the HTR or my current Samsung Blu Ray player.
Going for a 65 inch to replace my 1080p 60 inch. The 60 inch LG I have will go into the living room to replace my Mitsubishi 60 inch DLP. It a great TV, great picture in 1080p but I've had it for 9 years and replaced the bulb only once. But it's time to go. Maybe I'll put it on CL for $35.00
Thanks for the info guys. -
AFAIK, SACD is not part of it's equation -
You may want to rethink the app part if you stream or want to stream from any of the popular apps. Many if not most of these apps are the sources that will push a 4k TV to its fullest. NetFlicks Streams HDR and Atmos, Vudu Does both HDR & Dobly Vison along with Atmos. So you will have more opportunities to view things in full 4k if you pick a set with apps. TCL is the best bang for the buck from a cost factor, then Vizio after that you jump into the 1k and above range and see the regular players (LG, Samsung, Sony..etc…).Family Room HT 7.2/i]:Vizio Oled55h1 Pioneer Elite SC-LX502 Pioneer Elite BDP 85FD Eversolo DMP A6 Panamax M5300-EXSpeakers Fronts Fluance XF8L Center Polk Audio S35 Side Surrounds Fluance bipolar Rear Surrounds FluanceXF8 Bookshelf Subs SVS PB4000 x2 Living room 2ch: Crown Xli 1500 amp x2, Teac EQ MKII FX Audio X6 Mk II DAC Squeezebox Touch Fluance Signature Tower Speakers Panamax M5100-EXOffice media room:Vizio M50Q6 50" Pioneer Elite VSX LX301 Eversolo DMP-A6 Polkaudio R600 Towers Polkaudio Center R350 Panamax M4300 Monoprice 12" subMaster bedroom:Vizio M55Q7 Pioneer Elite VSX LX302 Pioneer Elite BDP 85FD Squeezebox Touch Fluance Signature Bookshelf fronts, Rears Fluance Signature Bipolar Polk Audio CS10 center Monoprice 12" sub Panamax M5300-EX

I love both my Sony 4K TVs and the Oppo 203 disk player on each one. Don’t use my TV gear for music.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Pretty sure the only 4K player that plays both dvd-a and Sacd is the Pioneer lx-500, but that’s a $1k player.
-
The X800 plays DVD-Audio and SACD. So far, it's been a fantastic unit for me._____________________________________________________________________________________________

I would love that Elite LX-500. But I dont have that kind of coin laying around. -
I’ll be getting Panasonic 820, only $500. Want it strictly for movies and it plays HDR, HDR10+; and DV.

That Pioneer looks sweet. Does anyone know how it compares to the Oppo UDP205?The Gear... Really? Are you sure it plays SACD? Does it have to be digital out? I'd rather my Yamaha Aventage 1050 do the DAC duties.
Thanks man!!! -

From the manual:
Through HDMI Audio out. Your Yamaha will do the conversion from digital to analog. It works with my Marantz._____________________________________________________________________________________________
