How to clean pots?

I got a bass amp from a friend and he said it works but maybe it needs one of the pots cleaned. I haven't even looked at this thing since I got it a few weeks ago. I don't play bass, I have no bass, but now I have an excuse to buy a bass and try playing it. Anyway what do I do after I gain access to its innards?

DeOxit is the thing to buy, and there are instructions on the can.
Good luck learning to play bass, if it's anything like guitar, trust me it'll take a while but eventually, it can be done. :)

@mhardy6647 one time in a city far away I got busted with a double album full of stems and seeds. The detective said "this will take you straight down the drain" then he took me into custody on "other charges" what a dick.

The story goin' round when I was younger was that they actually and deliberately changed the design of LP gatefold sleeves (from a little 'ravine' in the hinge to a little 'ridge' there instead) to dissuade the dopers from using them to clean their dope.

Of course, this also sounds like just the kind of bogus story The Man would plant to trigger that ever-present dope-catalyzed paranoia.

Cleaning dope is so 70-80's. Then was the last time anyone saw a seed or a stem?

Good thing too. How many millennials even know what an LP is.

Back to the original post question then. ;):)

I knew a guy who took the pots outs, took them apart and cleaned them and then the reverse procedure. OCD or just a guy with a lot of patience and a desire to see a job done to it's full potential. I was impressed to say the least.

Some pots have carbon contacts. With use some carbon falls away by design. This carbon builds up inside and basically creates other arc areas that are problems. Blow or flush out and back in business well until all the contact carbon is used up. Caig also makes a fader lube might give it a try after cleaning with the deoxit.
