Currently running Fronts TS1 500, Centre CS20, Sides TS1200, Surround backs OWM3.
Just bought Denon AVR-X4500H want to set up heights front an side. What would be best up there. Thinking of (4) OWM 5s or OWM3s like i have at the back.

I guess the real question for me is will that receiver putting out 125W for surround back/Height 1&2 channels damage the OWM3 showing continuous power 100W. I have the crossover for those speakers at 120, with fronts at 80

Your receiver will never put out that much to your surrounds, so don't worry about that part.

The receiver will be fine, those extra speakers are for ambient noises, no real power hungry aspect of a movie is really used for those. Adding more speakers though takes that much more power away from the rest.

@PeteD first, your receiver won't put out 125 WPC for more than 2 channels driven. Those Denon's do bench test pretty well, but at most its putting out 90-100 7 channels driven, the more speakers you add and it might drop even more.

Second, you can almost never have too much power for speakers. Most damage comes from under-powering them. And since those surrounds are mostly for ambient sounds, there is even less of a chance. No problemo...

That's probably your best bet. Before you run out and buy more speakers, do you actually watch movies from a Blu-ray disk ?

The reason I ask, is because that's really the only format that will allow those extra speakers to be used. If your movie watching is from cable TV, Amazon, Netflix, they don't carry any of that extra decoding so you'd be wasting coin.

And not just BDs, but a 4K player that can send Dolby atmos. They don’t all have to be 4K discs (a number of BDs have atmos soundtracks), but the player us to be 4K to even bitstream atmos.

Yea and although I am not a fan of those speakers, I think they are fine for atmos. Mostly ambient sounds I think...

Is the BDP 4K? Cause I think that only a select few non 4k BDPs will process atmos

My older Oppo will bit stream ATMOS/DTS-X

Most modern players will bit stream the new formats.

No sub in the OP setup ?
