First time HT, am I making a good choice?
Hello! Currently using a Vizio 5.1 surround bar + satellites + sub, with an LG EF9500. Been planning my first real setup for a while now, and have settled on two combinations, was wondering if I could get any input between these two.
The room is roughly 17x13 feet, opens to the kitchen, vaulted ceilings, not super ideal.
I've budgeted about $700ish for the speakers. For the sub, a BIC F12 or Dayton 1200. The AVR, a Denon AVRX1400H or Onkyo TX-NR777 (both are the same price, and while the Onkyo is 110w @ 8ohms and the Denon is only 80w, I've been led to believe Audyssey MultiEQ XT is much better than the AccuEQ on the Onkyo. Any other recommendations here on a receiver around $350 would be appreciated. Room for 7.1 + Atmos is desired for future proofing once we move, but I understand the volatility of AVR's). Still deciding on the rears.
Now for the mains, I was thinking the CS10 + Monitor 60 series 2's, or the CSI A4 + RTI A3's. Will primarily be watching films, but will also use these for music (purely for enjoyment and not any super critical listening, but of course I'd like them to perform well for music). These two combo's have a $10 difference in price, and I'm basically debating that given the size of the room and my listening needs, if it makes sense to forgo towers and get higher quality bookshelves + higher quality center channel instead.
Thank you.

Stick with better bookies. Easier placement.

I would suggest you budget a little more for the AVR:

Wait a few months and Polk may possibly have a F&F sale or Adorama May have another sale.
Get some 705’s and a center. Get your AVR and wait until you can save $500-$700 for a SVS.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -

yeah I'm definitely leaning towards the bookshelves -

I can definitely find some wiggle room for a better AVR. -

Lol I appreciate the rec, but I'm not trying to build my end game setup now. Like I said, the budget is around $700 for the speakers, I can't spend $1K+ on a single tower. -
That Denon is sweet

@mrloren
a bit of a stretch for me currently, but funny you bring that up, I just now was considering a S35 center + S15 bookshelves. I hear the RTI series is a bit too bright for music and more geared towards HT, while the Signatures are pretty good with both. Am I on the right track? -
I'd try to stretch for the package deal. In the long run it will serve you well. Save up for a good SVS or HSU sub and be done.
Yes Signatures are a lot better for music than RTi. I went from RTi-8 to my S60. Loving them every minute. When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

^^^^^, don't hesitate, this deal would be great. Signatures (S60) with the Yamaha sound great. You might find when adding a sub 'game over'. You might be satisfied without a sub, especially for music. I had nearly this same set and a friend couldn't wait to take them off my hands.

The Polk T Series is another viable option for youAudio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

@mrloren @mtnhickorynut just as I was coming to terms with the price and moving some money around, the deal is gone they have some variations with the S60's but nothing close to that good of a deal. I don't have experience with Adorama, any idea if they'll rinse that deal again in the upcoming weeks?
-
@halo yeah it definitely is, but I can punch a bit higher than that
-
@DSkip I hope so! That was a killer deal for $1400
