After a horrible last week, went to an estate sale today with my daughter which was PRICELESS <3

Found a few items, some good some not so good.

Also grabbed a heathkit vacuum tube voltmeter, for no reason....

Daughter got some trinkets including a miniature harmonica from Germany. Was playing it all the way home... :)

    Really off my game.

    The receiver had a SX 828 manual sitting on it so I assumed it was.
    It's a SX 626 instead.
    The speakers I thought were KLH.
    They are KN Knight 1265.

    Oh well good to be back buying stuff... B)

    I cannot find the 812A online (from which I infer it is from 1960) but here's its 15" cousin, the 815A from 1961).

    Yeah it's a 626 receiver -- there's a 727 sittin' about 50 feet from me as I type this.

    The KN1265 number refers to the enclosure, by the way.

    Nice to have had some quality time with your daughter, too! :)

    Good to know Doc.

    Got the lil receiver cleaned, o'xd put the dm4's on it. Not too bad.
    Signal strength is off the chart damn near of 5.
    All buttons, switches and lights seem fine.

    Haven't messed with the Knights other than a quick play thru them.
    Was disappointed they have no horns inside.

    Sadly the rear cabs are not marked +/- and it appears they should have legs on cabs.

    Coaxial speakers not junk?? That's good to know.

    Take a break and then start on them.

    Yeah, we had an awesome time.

    Poor kid has been laid up since her August car wreck.

    Thinking about doing a karma on the tube meter thing if any interest as I'd never use it or trade it for some used 10.5 reels down the road.

    Ok, time to rip into the speakers.

    No wait, some Thunderstruck just came on, lets take her to the big 3 on the volume...... Ahhhh, lil bugger don't sound too bad... B)

    The horns are coaxial with the woofers. Those should be excellent drivers; sensitive; great for tube amplifiers. :)

    PS I've still got a coupla reels sitting here for you; PM me an address if you want 'em and they're on their way next week.

    I think a VTVM would be a great karma! ;) It'll melt some folks minds, but they have a couple of advantages over DMMs:

    Primary of them being:

    * Much less sensitive to damage from overloading.
    * The ability to easily monitor a trend in a reading (watching the meter move) -- this can be nearly essential for some applications, e.g., for aligning radio circuits (in the absence of a sillyscope, that is) :)

    That's different, 2 different drivers. 1 is KN 812, other is KN 812A.

    Some black box where it seems a horn would go. It's with the 812 black driver.

    Maybe one has been replaced. Hmmm

    I think that's the crossover for the unsuffixed speaker.
    There will be a coaxially mounted, horn loaded compression driver (tweeter) in each
    speaker; there might also be a whizzer cone to improve midrange response/dispersion.

    Go to eBAY and see what kind of gelt the Goodmans coaxes fetch :)

    I will tell you this, though -- those loudspeakers will be at their best with something like this... Yeah, I'm a snob, but not an uninformed one :)

    Different treble horns -- hah! I shoulda known that. :p

    Looks to be pretty similar to the "KN-800" in the 1959 catalog:

    No wonder they were so cheap.

    I would try the mismatched pair before giving up on them. I wouldn't be surprised if they were bought one at a time; the first one for a mono system, but, when the original purchaser upgraded to that newfangled stereo, the speaker had been updated in the interim.

    Hard to say what happened.

    All back together, playing some Pink Floyd and my 50+ year old ears don't hear much of a difference between the two. I'm quite surprised at the lower end for about 27 wpc.

    Hey Doc, of the two drivers your opinion on which one is the better of the 2?

    Maybe I'll come across one of each someday.

    I would think it a push -- although the horn assembly on the unsuffixed version is hefty and attractive. :)
