    I got the Green mountain smoker with WiFi. It seems to be a solid smoker.

    What turned me off was the guy was trying to up sale me a smoke box. I was thinking of whole time. Am I not buying a smoker? Why the **** do I need a smoke box?

    Anyhow. I got the Green Mountain Davey Crocket. Still new so will take me time to learn. One thing is for sure. I am not trying expensive cuts on this.

    Oak is a standard with me...plentiful and good burner. Typically use oak with some hickory. Will add fruit woods and alter levels of hickory depending on the meat. I do like the addition of some mesquite when burning beef.

    I'm like you, I don't care for mesquite so much. It always seems to overpower the flavor of what I am smoking. In my Kamado Joe, I usually use peach wood and sometimes a little hickory too. My wife doesn't like a real strong smokey taste, so I only want about 2 hours of smoke, even during a long, 12-15 hour cook.
