Great news for us, soon to be Iowa's first Portillos, no more driving to DeKalb or Rockford, or Chicago when me and the Wife have a hankering for some Portillos, heck with Costco coming and Portillos, and a couple of new brew pubs were going big time.

You'll be civilized in no time!

Tomorrow will be the last time I get to enjoy the aroma coming from the one right outside the place I've worked the last 12 yrs. Love the combo! :)

On a good note it sounds like we're getting a Lou Malnati's in Rockford.

I worked across the street from Portillo’s on North Ave. in Addison, I’ll. in the 60’s. Hot Dogs and fries were the venue.. it was a little hot dog stand in the middle of the Big R’s parking lot.. I’m 80 years old..

Can't wait for the Lou Malnati's to open. We already have some great authentic generational Italian pizza joints, but this will be a nice addition.

In looking at Lou's website there appear to be several delivery/carry out only places. I wonder if this will be a full blown sit down restaurant or just delivery/carry out.

Where they are locating is just around a (long) corner from Giordano's and few doors down from Portillo's and practically across from Old Chicago.

Stameys in Greensboro was always one of my go-tos, for what it's worth; also Alston Bridges in Shelby. Most of my relatives down that way are no longer with us, though, so it's been a while.

I am surprised to see fries and not hushpuppies in that image, though!

Yes you both are. I was spoiled too when I lived in Chicago. Nothing like that in the Detroit area.

I frequented Kansas City a few years back when we launched the Malibu. BBQ joints everywhere. Loved it. Man I'm hungry!
