Why does this unit broadcast a WiFi signal, and how can I turn it off?

It's the WiFi Direct connection you use to begin setup with the Google Home app. I don't think it can be turned off.

Is there a way to turn this off? I had no idea when I bought this thing that it was going to open up a possible security issue with my network.

I'll be returning it if this can't be shut off.
