Buying my first house!

My wife and I are closing on our first home today! We're excited and scared to death all at the same time. It's an old house (80 some years old) and needs some TLC, but we love it. So any one that's up for a road trip to Ohio bring a PAINT BRUSH :D We've got to paint the house this spring/summer!

The good news is I'll have my own man cave. I get one of the spare bedrooms to make my music room so I am excited. It's small but it's all MINE! :D

Just thought I'd share.

Congrats on the new house, best of luck with the upcoming work...

We just bought our new place earlier this year and are loving it...nothing like owning your own home...

Thats great, nothing like getting a home--and a mancave to boot! I'd love to be able to set my system up "optimally" sound-proofing, speakers 3ft out in the room, and although my wife is very flexible, I wouldn't want my speakers 3 ft into the family room either!

Awesome! Congrats. I can't wait to get my own home. It's almost pointless having a good audio system because it can't be fully enjoyed in an apartment. Drives me nuts.

Got a digital camera? Post some pictures if you will. Love to see it.

Cool man...Just say goodbye to all of your "extra funds":D

Actually, you'll love working on your house. It's a labor of love, just be sure to do everything RIGHT. Overdo it, so you don't EVER have to revisit it again. It costs a little more, but is well worth it in the long run.

Good luck, and don't get frustrated....

    Congrats.:D

    Sorry to hear that.:D

There is nothing like home ownership. The pride, the time, the money, etc.

    Good luck.

    Thanks everyone!

I just got back from closing and my right hand is numb from signing my life away! My stereo buying days are over for a very very long time! :(

Here are some pics of how the seller's have it. We are moving in this weekend. We'll be painting the outside this spring. We love the charm of the older houses.

    Thanks!

We are excited to have our own place that we can make our own. and after living in a one bedroom apartment with WAY too much stuff we're VERY ready for the extra space! I'll post pics of the man cave once I get it up and running, hopefully I'll be able to put an infinite baffle subwoofer in someday, but I'm not holding my breathe.

Cool porch, and lots of wood, NEAT!

Going to make for some 'live' listening rooms, for sure.

Enjoy it, and man, your buying days are FAR from over. Hell, if anything, you've MORE room for MORE gear now.

    Pm,

Who was your builder, and what part of town are you in?

    Cheers,
    Russ

Buescher Homes actually owns the plans and typically does all the building. However, I made a few changes on their prints (cost me $1500 to have an 'architect' draw it up) and contracted the building myself, saved me about 40K overall (yes I'm a cheap ****)...

I'm off Hillcrest and Labenon in Frisco.

I know exactly where that is, I'm off Eldorado / Lake Forest in McKinney just down the road a few miles.

We should hook up sometime, have some cold suds, dig a listen, and tell audio lies.

    Cheers,

Wow, didn't know you were that close, Mckinney huh? I'm sure I'd love to 'dig a listen' on some of your stuff...:D

Beautiful house there tryrrthg. I love all the wood work inside. Congrats on the first purchase.

We are still in our first, 12 years and running. I love it too much to sell off and move. This weekend, we paint the living room and are in the process of shopping for all new furniture.

    Ahh yes a new home,

We moved in our new home last October. We waited 2.5 years for it to be built.
I started painting this week as I took a week off from work to do so.You'd think a brand new house wouldn't need to be painted but the builder wouldn't give us any color other then builders special white. The place looks so much better with some color.

By the way painting is alot of work when you have 15 feet ceilings and 9 feet everwhere else.

My man cave is upstairs, it has carpet over wood floors so I'm alright there. It's just a small room about 11' x 10.5'

As far as buying days, they ARE over! too many home projects now, and my wife is still looking for a full time job. Hopefully I won't have to sell any of the stuff I have now to get by... Once she gets a job, then I can probably think about asking her to let me cut that hole in the ceiling for my infinite baffle!

    My cave isn't much larger.

And just so you know, its not a 'small room', refer to it as an 'intimate listening area'. ;)

Just be sure to block the Home and Garden channel on the TV. that show alone could cost you thousands. And welcome to the American dream!

Beautiful looking house! I just got my loan approval yesterday and will start looking for one soon. First thing I will do is tear off carpet, if I buy one with, and replace it with wood. Helps to have a carpenter dad whose living comes from building homes. Pool is a must now that I'll be moving away from the lake. Sauna either on the outside or inside.

Polkmaniac, Russ, you're not that far from me. I'm currently living in Lake Dallas, on the north shore of Lewisville Lake. I'll probably start looking in Flower Mound / Lewisville area, anything that takes me away from I-35 and the traffic (I commute to Irving for work).
