No need to apologize; this is excellent!
Thank you!

Anyone notice the crossover points? In a 2 way system? Even if they're both high pass, that 100 point is a bit high given it's overall response.
-
So -- no, I didn't but I will say this:
That 4" CTS driver was/is actually a pretty darned nice full-range (extended range) driver -- it has good output probably to 10kHz or maybe even more (on axis).
-
I don't doubt that. I just think it's a bit much to choke it off at 100hz and still claim response down into the 30s. Something is amiss.
-
ahh, I see your point.
Well -- in the olden days (not that this is necessarily germane; I just want to do the 'old guy' thing and pretend that I am knowledgeable), it was pretty common to rate the "frequency range" of loudspeakers. The "range" was tacitly (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) assumed to represent the -10 dB points "Frequency response" (if specified) was similarly, tacitly taken to represent -3 dB points.
But, of course, frequency response of loudspeakers is an ephemeral thing, at best Where is it measured? In a real, reverberant room? In an anechoic chamber? In a real room, where are the loudspeakers (corner, wall, middle of the room) and where is the microphone.
If you remember high school physics and those "ripple tank" experiments, you can get an idea of how darned complicated sound reproduction in a finite, bounded space (like a room) can be! And those mind-bending interference patterns represent only one frequency

I just had a flashback

Yeah, that pic brings back memories. Couldn't wrap my head around chemistry to save my life, but physics was a different story thankfully.
-
try biophysics some time. I have a love-hate relationship with biophysics

Can't imagine why

Amusing thread. Sorry for the radio silence. I found my notes.
The drivers in the original post were purchased on fleabay. They are Bose 901 OEM - is that acronym used for electronics or just cars? Inquiring minds...
Regardless, this is a picture of a different pair with original drivers that I have in my office. The drivers in these are labeled MW6500 (yes, they are) and are stamped '79 or '82. I won't take them apart, but I do have pictures on a thumb drive somewhere if anyone's interested.
FWIW they are powered by a Sonos Connect Amp and sound fantastic.
I put the mini's back in storage, but if anyone local to NYC wants them, don't hesitate to get in touch.

To quote Patty Larkin's song Beg to Differ:New York is far away from here...

Yes, we say "OEM" too -- well, I do, at any rate.

Original Equiptment Manufacture. Works for me.

Aaargh. I want them but unfortunately I don't feel comfortable doing Internet business with new members. FYI you need 100 posts to sell here.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Sorry...didn't know the rules my bad.....just wanted to offer them to some people who enjoy polk speakers....
-
@bushiro There's interest... Especially from me.
Hang out for a week and you'll hit the century mark quickly, then post a price. No doubt there will be several of us climbing over each other to get our grubby mitts on them. -
They're so CUTE!

Was always fascinated by the mini monitors! Hopefully you stay and Nightfall snags these up. I’m sure either way you’ll be offered a fair price.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

Was a hijack sale posted and then deleted? I'm confused. I have 111 posts as a long time sometimes active lurker, and have bought, sold, and even given a pair of 7's away for free.

The 100hz is the "crossover" from the woofer to the passive radiator. -
