I think our 10 year old Cisco wireless router is on its last leg, connections are starting to be spotty and speeds are all over the place. Don't want to spend over $200, I guess getting 10 years out a the Cisco was pretty good. I'm looking at this Google one is this recommended or should I be looking for another brand?

I like my Netgear Nighthawk router - good speed, strong signal - seems to be robust.

I have the google mesh system, which is basically three of those units u are looking at. It works GREAT! But I have three in a 3000 sq ft u shaped home. I think one would work fine in a small home, say 1000-1500 ft. But bigger than that I’m not sure if one would cover it...

One thing to note is that you don’t have any many options with the google as the netgear. For instance, u can’t use a VPN with google. That doesn’t matter to me but ymmv...

Thanks for the advice ended up getting a Netgear Nighthawk AC2300 on sale with $20 off at Best Buy it cost 179.99. So saving 20 on a 200 router sounded good to me I hope it is a good one. I got 9 years out of the old one.

Hooked it up man its blazing fast should of replaced the old one long ago. If any of you computer gurus can answer this what's the difference between NETGEAR30, and NETGEAR30-5G? When I search for networks, both of these options show up.

It looks like that router allows you to have separate names for the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands, that can come in handy if you run devices like the Aries that tend to prefer a 5G network. In general, the 5.0 band gives you faster speeds but doesn't have the range of a 2.4...so my other general rule is to use the 5Ghz unless you can't

Mine is an older AC1750. Still blazing fast. You should be good to go with that!

5GHz should theoretically give you more bandwidth but the shorter wave length doesn't penetrate walls as well. Much like treble vs bass, you can hear bass from blocks away when that riced out Civic drives by your house but you can't hear the treble until they're on top of you.
