What’s wrong with monster cables?

Ha, must have not been used to people putting up a fight!

Can't tell if the wire inside is green because the cable isn't clear!mlistens03 wrote: »The green cable issue, sorry I should have specified that

Oh true, didn’t think about that. Do you think it is likely? I don’t want to damage my subwoofer and amplifiers as I am using their rca cables
-
I doubt it. The insulation and jacket for line level cables is usually more robust.mlistens03 wrote: »Oh true, didn’t think about that. Do you think it is likely? I don’t want to damage my subwoofer and amplifiers as I am using their rca cables

Ok good. I was all of the sudden very nervous when I realized I was using older monster line level cables for my connections from my AVR to my amplifier, or to subwoofers, or the like, but I feel a little safer about using them now.

I think you would be impressed at the audible difference in going away from Monster and toward Blue Jeans or Signal Cable.mlistens03 wrote: »Ok good. Check out our own Douglas Connections, he's a straight shooter and he offers a discount to forum members.
-
How much do the Douglas cables cost? I am seriously thinking about getting some blue jeans cable, but if that is so much better, than maybe it’s worth it.
-
Douglas connections, not cables sorry
-
My bad, I had read the OP's earlier post concerning his budget but then spaced. To attempt to answer the question about Doug's prices - it varies he sells a wide variety of product - raw wire to a variety of his own cables with a variety of wire and terminations - you'd have to call him or check his website. I was thinking raw Furez is inexpensive by the foot and maybe some raw Furutech wire as well, kinda depends on where you are going with this and how good you are at DIY, etc. You'll have to give this whole issue some serious consideration but I can tell you Doug is a very honest fellow.
-
Ok, can you give me a link to his website?

Thanks

Yeah that is unfortunately a little out of my price range,so I’m gonna stick with the blue jeans cable or signal cable.
-
how long of cables do you need?
-
I already have banana plugs, so I’m probably just going to buy 50 feet of cable with bare ends, never can have too much extra
-
This isn’t too much, right? -

something to think about. You can take the two reds and two whites twist them together for two channel. this works very well for inexpensive cable. In fact this brand is what Signal cable makes their speaker cables out of. Signal ultra uses two runs of 4s8 per side and puts it in techflex covering.

Hmm, I might try that. Kind of like biwiring, but without putting the cables into different binding posts, right? But it wouldn’t be in a fancy covering, sorry to disappoint

The "green wire" problem is caused by hydrochloric acid -- either residual in or, more likely, due to the environmental degradation of -- the polyvinylchloride (PVC) jacket used in some speaker cables.
Other polymers are less likely to have that problem (although they may have others) -- PVC isn't a great choice for an insulator, anyway (IMO), but it is cheap.
As to Monster's "interconnects" (we used to call 'em "patch cords" or just "wires", but
what did we know, like, fifty years ago?) -- hifi peer pressure made me abandon mine -- although, since I found mine at the local (Harvard, MA) town dump, I never felt all that bad about them. The "death grip" comment above is apt (i.e., be careful, especially on lower-end/mass market components that are equipped with cheap, flimsy female "RCA" jacks)!

As to Mr. Noel "Monster" Lee's business practices -- google and see.

I did google about mr. Monsters practices, and I’d say they are quite questionable.
I think that I did lose a female rca jack on a cheap white van sub once, but I was gonna blow it anyways so I didn’t care
That amp looks awesome, and I imagine it sounds amazing too. -
This "as found" Marantz integrated was missing the outer metal (shield) connection on both RCA jacks on the "CD" input. Almost certainly a victim of Monstrosity, methinks.

(note the "black" stubs where the CD input jacks should be)
The nice thing was - it was on the "free" pile at a NEARC swapfest one spring, and
(other than that little issue with the two jacks) was in perfect working order.

Nice find on that Marantz for sure, it has enough other inputs that I don’t think it would be a problem (at least for me)ken brydson wrote: »mlistens03 wrote: »I think that I did lose a female rca jack on a cheap white van sub once, but I was gonna blow it anyways so I didn’t care
